U.S. House Passes Measure To Repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

The U.S. House of Representatives have passed a measure to allow gays to serve openly in the military by repealing a 1993 law that is commonly known as “don’t ask, don’t tell.” The House vote came Thursday night, just hours after the Senate Armed Services Committee approved a similar measure to repeal the policy that prohibits service by those who openly acknowledge being gay or lesbian.     There have been gay MARRIAGES performed in the Canadian Forces for the last 5 years. Not only are Canadian gay soldiers allowed to serve freely, but their unions, if they choose to marry, is also recognized both by their peers and the society at large.

    Meanwhile, they fight alongside Americans in Afghanistan, and are no less performant for the respect and dignity they are afforded. It is high time for the US to do the same.
