Committee To Protect Journalists: 2009 Was The Deadliest Year Yet

The 70 journalists killed in 2009 with motive confirmed make it the deadliest year for the profession since the Committee To Protect Journalists began keeping record in 1992. According to the group, which divides journalist deaths by “murder,” “crossfire/combat” and “dangerous assignment,” there have been 797 journalists killed since 1992. Today, NPR has a report on this year’s numbers.

The exhaustively detailed and sad website includes details for many of the deaths, including the countries in which they occurred and the beats the reporters were covering.

Here’s the NPR report:

Last year was the deadliest one for working journalists since the Committee to Protect Journalists started keeping track in 1992. Host Liane Hansen talks with NPR’s Media Correspondent David Folkenflik about the events that led to the elevated risk for journalists around the world.

We have just finished with several weeks of “non-journalist” activities – NOT only NPR!
“Third-string” reporters/editorialists”, repeats of ‘file film’, NOT labeled as such!
    And ADs(?) -..
I understand how: Deadly Year For Journalists..
On TV – the best buttons on the remote are: “mute”, “previous channel” & OFF! Our ‘local’ newspaper
doesn’t do too well either – BUT – who’s left to read?
