David Shuster On Media Bias, Drudge, Andrew Breitbart, And James O’Keefe

MSNBC’s David Shuster made an appearance at yesterday’s White House briefing, and afterward, sat down for an interview for Mediaite. While not a regular presence in the briefing room, Shuster is more than qualified to render an opinion on the journalism being practiced there, and that distance allows him to make fresh observations.

Shuster, you may recall, rather famously did battle with Andrew Breitbart and James O’Keefe over the latter’s arrest for his alleged involvement in an attempt to “maliciously interfere” with the telephones at Senator Mary Landrieu’s office. In this preview of our interview, I asked Shuster for his take on the position of people like Andrew Breitbart, Matt Drudge, and James O’Keefe in journalism. His responses were rather surprising.

I was prepared to write off Mr. Shuster as just another leftist a-hole. Instead he was objective, open-minded and really a pleasure to listen to. Here is man who believes in freedom of speech for everyone.

However, it is apparent that in Mr.Christopher’s ideal world, there is no place for the likes of Matt Drudge, Andrew Breitbart, or James O’Keefe. I suspect that Mr. Christoper would rather see those three in Guantanamo instead of the current occupants.

I recall that when Red Eye savaged Shuster with an edition of “Red Eye Robot Theatre,” Shuster wrote them a really nice, classy email commending them for how funny it was (and it was). Shuster seems like seems like the type of guy that you could fight with all day long, and then share a beer with at the end of the day.

David is a real nice guy. What you see is what you get. He is one heck of an investigative reporter. I know this because I know David. He is a friend of mine. I have talked with him several times about these very same issues. He does not take this stuff home with him. He even sticks up for right wingers that come on his show. He is truly a nice guy.

Did it ever occur to you to interview Drudge, O’Keefe, and Breitbart for their opinions of David Shuster? I mean, they seem to have bigger audiences and exert more influence than Shuster.

Shuster often fills in for Olbermann, and the level of hatred for differing opinions doesn’t seem to let up much.

The Cartoon Network just called Shuster. In an opportunity some are calling simply irrefutable, they’re 1st offering Shuster a chance to work at cable network with more viewers and 2nd, a spot within a program amongst a list of personalities which more aptly fit his personality. Go for it Shuster!

Well that would be great. Except for Drudge famously doesn’t do intervews anymore. And if he did, it wouldn’t be with Tommy.

O’Keefe is unable to give interviews because his lawyers have told him to shut up because every time he opens his mouth he digs his own grave a little deeper. O’Keefe is likely going to jail.

James is the opposite of a journalist. He is an activist.

Shuster is a snarky little puke. He doesn’t rate at MSNBC he’s an interchangeable talking telepromter along with Contessa WWW (think oz). The only thing they do on their own is negative opinion/rude behavior. Really who cares what they think, I don’t see what they bring to the table. Todd and Guthrie at least kiss up @ the White House, and get the soup of the day now that deserves a show. Sorry David, and Contessa, Savannah and Chuckie took your place!

In the unlikely event that college-educated professional journalist David Shuster is reading this, he really needs to learn the difference between “racial epitaphs” and “racial epithets.” I heard him use the former for the second time this morning. What next – irregardless? He also needs to work on his bias. Is he supposed to be delivering commentary or news? MSNBC needs to make up his mind for him. Eh, sharpton/jackson, epithet/epitaph – it’s just entertainment. And it is entertaining.
