Flat Tax Fever: Steve Forbes Endorses Rick Perry

video

Forbes Magazine publisher and flat tax champion Steve Forbes endorsed Rick Perry, giving his struggling campaign an important boost. Perry is on the cusp of announcing his very own flat tax proposal on Tuesday in a speech to South Carolina voters.

Forbes previously ran as a dark horse candidate in the 1996 and 2000 Republican nomination race and both times trumpeted the flat tax as an economic cure-all.

Perry thanked the businessman for his support in a statement. “Steve Forbes is a well known fiscal conservative, and provided strong support and advice throughout the process of drafting my economic and jobs plans,” Perry said. “I am honored to have Steve’s endorsement of my candidacy for president.”

And I”m sure that Perry will be just as successful with that flat tax idea as Forbes was.

if forbes is such a fiscal conservative, then why is endorsing a candidate whose tax plan
will blow a gigantic hole in the deficit?

  • Your Mama’s so fat

Steve Forbes is endorsing a flat tax, I’m shocked! Do I look shocked?  I’m really shocked, not!  It should be noted, if Steve Forbes is for it, it’s probably bad for America.

well if steve forbes, who surfaces every presidential campaign believes in rickie, that says volumes. . . . let’s see, forbes and donnie like perry, good enough reasons for you robotonics of the gop to get over the dream of him being elected.  This is really becoming a joke, or more of a joke.

Kind of confirms what I already knew which is that Steve Forbes is a total buffoon and his father is probably rolling in his grave!

  • Mencius

Considering Forbes’ showing in his own presidential bid, this is almost an anti-endorsement. America already rejected Forbes and isn’t going to elect Perry.

forbes and trump are schooling rickie. . well that’s a deal buster right away!

I’m sorry but only a dude running with GOP in his declaration for the presidency could/would ignore the FACT that there are a few angry people out there who feel BIG BUSINESS (read Forbes) should NOT be involved in the mechanics of GOVERNING! BUT, it is PERRY after all… facts dont scare dudes like him unless they are useful, and even then, he seems to bumble their use.

This is perfect timing for a Wall Street endorsement, I guess.  Perry is always hitting his mark.

Flat tax is a regressive tax, period. But as you may have noticed, the wealthy conservatives keep pushing it because they would benefit from it the most. Since Reagan and the trickle down economics policies that have set us on the road to large government debt, telling intellectually lazy people that we can grow the government  by reducing taxes, we now find ourselves in such a sorry state, that there is no other way but to grow government and tax the people who have benefited the most the last 30 years, to keep people working, and if we don’t, expect those groups in the streets to grow even bigger.

How do you figure that the Flat Tax is regressive?  If they put personal deductions into the code that will keep those within the poverty line from having to pay federal income tax then how can you complain?

Do you think that the 70,000 + pages of current tax code is somehow fair?  Do you really think that it is fair to the American people that once you have any kind of small business or investments that your taxes should become so complicated that you are foolish to not hire an accountant to do them for you?

Our taxing system is corrupted and has been used for far too long to grant political favor or to try and influence the market place…  Rarely are the programs and favors of the past readdressed, it is time to get a simple but fair tax system, and the flat tax offers the most logical choice.

The point  of the flat tax is not to include personal deductions unless it is included for a poverty line. In most flat tax senarios middle class Americans end up with increased taxaxtion. Flat tax idea was tryed by Forbes in 96 and 2000 with little success.

The GOP likes their tax code like their earth: flat.

Precisely.  A loser advising a future loser.

    Steve,

I feel sorry for your dad. You have managed to prove him wrong again. You’ve pucked up royally. Again.

However, Parry would like to thank you for the kiss. Not in the arse. The other one.
