Mexican President Slams Arizona Immigration Law To US Congress

video

Mexican President Felipe Cadleron spoke this morning to a joint session of the U.S. Congress and took the opportunity to blast the controversial new immigration law recently passed in Arizona. Calderon said “I am convinced that a comprehensive immigration reform is also crucial to securing our common border. However, I strongly disagree with the recently adopted law in Arizona.”

    Colby,
I was hoping you might include his discussion with Wolf Blitzer, where he criticized AZ, but when asked by Blitzer what happens in his country when someone enters illegally, he admitted they are thrown out. That would have been relevent here, I think. Don’t you agree?

It’s a shame that the President of the United States, and Congress allowed such a spectacle. They allowed the head of a foreign government to come into the USA to denounce the actions of one of its states. The actions which are supported by the majority of Americans.

Congress and this administration should have at least mentioned, and possibly compared the immigration laws of Mexcio to the recent Arizona law. Mexico, especially the areas around the borders, is deplorable. The country can’t protect its own citizens or police officers. Drug cartels are the defacto leaders. Mexico can’t even create an environment for its citizen that foster hope.

Bush allowed former President Fox to do the same things. Just another example that our government does not work for the people.

Do we really have the Mexican President lecturing us on our laws?!? Can some please ask this idiot if he would be okay if we just adopt Mexico’s immigration law? The fact that Obama just stood by and watch this guy denounce our country is unbelievable!

Has there ever been another leader that lobbies for people fleeing his country? How about he tells congress how he is going to improve Mexico to keep millions of his own people from feeling the need to enter our country illegally to lead a better life?!

  • Zakk

Can someone tell me the difference between the AZ law and the Federal law?

  • notsofast

Felipe Cadleron – keep your drug thugs and drugs in Mexico.

And great job liberals. Applauding a foreign leader who attacks your country or should I say, my country.

  • Liberty – Not Redistribution

I’m pretty skeptical of both of our political parties. However, this type of BS is why I usually vote for the neocon. As much as I distrust the libs/neocons, I can’t handle the open distain they have for their own country.

  • TylerDurden

If this had been the Chinese Prime Minister, the libs would have responded the same way.

  • Olby Sucks

How come the mexican didn’t mention the fact his laws are discriminatory towards Americans? Go home, loser. He’s just pissed because the Az law has his people fleeing by the thousands back home. C’ya!

  • TylerDurden

Hey, Señor Wences, was BHO your puppet in this gig?

  • sarainitaly

Disgraceful. It’s bad enough that Obama slams the US around the world, now he invites other in and let’s them attack us at home, about our own laws??

Mexican President Felipe Calderon has been ripping into Arizona’s immigration law as he tours Washington — while appearing to disregard the way his own country cracks down on immigrants along Mexico’s southern border.

Mexico repeatedly has been cited by human rights groups for abusing or turning a blind eye to the abuse of migrants from Central America. Until recently, Mexican law made illegal immigration a criminal offense — anyone arrested for the violation could be fined, imprisoned for up to two years and deported. Mexican lawmakers changed that in 2008 to make illegal immigration a civil violation like it is in the United States, but their law still reads an awful lot like Arizona’s.

The Mexican law also states that law enforcement officials are “required to demand that foreigners prove their legal presence in the country before attending to any issues.”

Calderon said Wednesday that his country would retain its “firm rejection” of a policy where “people that work and provide things to this nation will be treated as criminals.”

The comments came just weeks after Amnesty International issued a report claiming illegal immigrants in Mexico — typically from Central America — face abuse, rape and kidnappings, and that Mexican police do little to stop it. When illegal immigration was a criminal offense in Mexico, officials were known to seek bribes from suspects to keep them out of jail.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/05/20/calderon-criticism-arizona-law-overlooks-mexicos-tough-immigration-policy/

Calderon just doesn’t want to lose the +$10 Billion annually that is sent back to Mexico from illegal immigrants.

  • Olby Sucks

The demonrats had the speech in advance, including obama and knew exactly what was going to be said and let it go on, anyways.

  • Ination

I’m also tired of this immigration debate. Give fines to employers who hire illegals and send the ones we find back, and make naturalization not take 5 years. If no one is hiring, no one is coming. Reform the law and move on, please.

  • http://gordonbloyershow.com gordonbloyershow

We should adopt the Mexican law. He can’t object to that could he? Their law gives a three year jail sentence for the first offense. Ten years if you do it again. It works for me.

Yes, and here is one from the BHO admin. the asst. Sec. of State who himself said publicly after his meeting with the Chinese Prime Minister that he (Posner) brought up the AZ law to the Prime Minister “early and often.”

“ASSISTANT SECRETARY POSNER: We brought it up early and often. It was mentioned in the first session, and as a troubling trend in our society and an indication that we have to deal with issues of discrimination or potential discrimination, and that these are issues very much being debated in our own society.”

Yes, I know liberals for what they are!

  • TylerDurden

Hey, Señor Wences, why didn’t you tell Congress about Mexico’s laws on immigration?

I bet you were too embarrassed to.

Mexico welcomes only foreigners who will be useful to Mexican society:

    * Foreigners are admitted into Mexico “according to their possibilities of contributing to national progress.” (Article 32)

    * Immigration officials must “ensure” that “immigrants will be useful elements for the country and that they have the necessary funds for their sustenance” and for their dependents. (Article 34)

    * Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets “the equilibrium of the national demographics,” when foreigners are deemed detrimental to “economic or national interests,” when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and when “they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy.” (Article 37)

Mexican authorities must keep track of every single person in the country:

    * Federal, local and municipal police must cooperate with federal immigration authorities upon request, i.e., to assist in the arrests of illegal immigrants. (Article 73)

    * A National Population Registry keeps track of “every single individual who comprises the population of the country,” and verifies each individual’s identity. (Articles 85 and 86)

    * A national Catalog of Foreigners tracks foreign tourists and immigrants (Article 87), and assigns each individual with a unique tracking number (Article 91).

Foreigners with fake papers, or who enter the country under false pretenses, may be imprisoned:

    * Foreigners with fake immigration papers may be fined or imprisoned. (Article 116)

    * Foreigners who sign government documents “with a signature that is false or different from that which he normally uses” are subject to fine and imprisonment. (Article 116)

Foreigners who fail to obey the rules will be fined, deported, and/or imprisoned as felons:

    * Foreigners who fail to obey a deportation order are to be punished. (Article 117)

    * Foreigners who are deported from Mexico and attempt to re-enter the country without authorization can be imprisoned for up to 10 years. (Article 118)

    * Foreigners who violate the terms of their visa may be sentenced to up to six years in prison (Articles 119, 120 and 121). Foreigners who misrepresent the terms of their visa while in Mexico — such as working with out a permit — can also be imprisoned.

Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony. The General Law on Population says,

    * “A penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally.” (Article 123)

    * Foreigners with legal immigration problems may be deported from Mexico instead of being imprisoned. (Article 125)

    * Foreigners who “attempt against national sovereignty or security” will be deported. (Article 126)

Mexicans who help illegal aliens enter the country are themselves considered criminals under the law:

    * A Mexican who marries a foreigner with the sole objective of helping the foreigner live in the country is subject to up to five years in prison. (Article 127)

    * Shipping and airline companies that bring undocumented foreigners into Mexico will be fined. (Article 132)

Yikes. Uhh… wow. Holy s**t. Well, alright – one up to you, friend.

Why is he talking about our issues with China when they have an absolutely atrocious record on human rights violations? While I’m glad he’s only an assistant, I’d rather not have an extremist of any kind in a high position.

There is a new Mediaite post with the Mexican President being questioned by Wolf Blitzer who asks him about Mexico/s laws.

He is saying they have changed.

But it is a sad indictment that it took Wolf to ask him about this.

And those criticizing the law? Have they read it?

I asked the Concierge in my hotel if the “Gordon Blower Shower “was on television. He asked me if I was talking about the Old White Man who had his picture taken with President Raygun. Turns out you have been replaced by a corriander cooking show in Mumbai. A shame. I haven’t an idea what is not happening in Amerika.

In the midst of this debate, my award for MEDIA IDIOT of the week goes to Contessa Brewer at MSNBC (who lately is on a tear to rack up her record for winning the award the most) for actually stating on air yesterday that the reason we NEED illegals is because (quote): “they do all sorts of valuable things like clean our houses, cook our meals, and do our wash.” Mind you, they’re not doctors or computer specialists or anything that contributes to society like that. No, no, no — according to Contessa we NEED to keep illegals around to make sure dinner is on the table or our underwear got cleaned.

Dear Contessa: Speaking as someone who does all three of those things just fine — more important, speaking as someone who doesn’t feel the need to hire a human being, but then pay them off the book, substandard slave wages so they’ll do the crap work I’m too lazy to do — on behalf of myself, feel free to send an illegal BACK to wherever they came from.

Then turn in your resignation for being an incompetent journalist and for proving — yet again — you’re truly the DIMMEST bulb at MSNBC.

Hey, the Royal King is gracing us with his presence, all the way from ‘Mumbai’. It’s sad but touching. Whenever the King returns from one of these “trips”, the attendants put up a banner saying “Welcome home, King”, and allow him an extra hour of TV that evening.

If you cross Mexico’s southern border illegally, it is a felony and you go to jail. Calderon is an idiot and so are the Dems that clapped for this freak.

    Vote out Dems.

    F Obama

  • AmericanCowboy

Support “Legal Only” Immigration. Let’s welcome legal immigrants with a hand of friendship. Let’s put the illegals immigrants in the back of the line.

Shame on the Politian that wants to let these law breakers in the front of the line. In front of those who are doing the right thing. Shame on the Politian who does not protect our borders against illegal border entry. Some of which are murders, drugs dealers and possible terrorists. These Politian’s must be voted out of office. Yes, John McCain, you are in that group that must go. It is too late to redeem yourself now that the polls show border enforcement is popular. You showed your true colors when you drafted a crap immigration bill with Dead Kennedy. Bye bye!!!

Liberial as always are on the wrong side on immigration. Liberals make poor choices and bad decisions. It is a compete inability to differentiate right from wrong. Liberals lack character and common sense. It is truly sad. In addition, Liberals are foolish, unethical, immoral, corrupt and dishonest,

Liberials please explain why illegals should get to cut in line in front of those who are trying to enter the U.S.A. legally?

  • RichS

The Arizona law requires that law enforcement have a lawful reason to stop someone. Federal Law, there was a unanimous Supreme Court decision on this a few years ago, has no such requirement on law enforcement.

Based on Mr. Calderon’s comments, I have now decided to boycott ALL products made in Mexico. I am already boycotting all products made in California, and trying to locate anything I can that is made in Arizona.

As for the applause during the joint session of Congress, I wish all who applauded could be deported to Mexico–along with the criminal aliens from that miserable third-world cesspool who have of late been infesting the US with their miserable presence.
