No HuffPo? Sarah Palin Finally Reveals Her News Sources To Sean Hannity

video

palin_hannitySean Hannnity’s pre-taped interview with Sarah Palin aired last night, and among the litany of Republican-friendly positions revealed, the former Governor of Alaska and author of Going Rogue finally told Hannity which newspapers and magazines she regularly reads. Why is this important? You’ll recall her infamous hiccup in answering the same question asked by Katie Couric. What media does Palin consume? Spoiler alert: not the Huffington Post.

Regarding the interview with Couric, Palin said “She asked about what I read, and I read…I read Newsmax and the Frontiersman and Wall Street Journal and everything online. I absorb the news via many, many sources.”

Danny Shea writes in the Huffington Post:

Newsmax is a conservative news website, while the Frontiersman is the local Wasilla, Alaska newspaper.

In one of the more memorable moments of the 2008 campaign, Palin did not name a single publication when Couric asked, “What newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?”

Palin has said that she was offended by Couric’s question because it implied that Alaskans couldn’t stay informed like people in the lower 48 states.

Ed. note – this piece initially did not give proper attribution to Danny Shea at the Huffington Post. We regret the error.

Colby: Just curious, have you read her book yet? She apparently addresses this very “issue” in her book as well.

I still laugh at the obsession over this question surmising that had Sarah answered and identified 6 or 7 sources, Katie would have said: “What? You don’t read (insert anything here).

After months to make up something believable “Sarah” comes up with the, Couric was insulting Alaskans defense?! Uh-huh, sure. Try again “Sarah.” Dumb ass.

  • straitshooter straitshooter says:

Ted, why call someone a “dumb ass”? And why are you putting Sarah in quotes? I am asking because I am curious, what is it about her that triggers such a personal response? Why not just challenge her on this issues?

  • straitshooter straitshooter says:

Palin has claimed Couric repeatedly asked insulting questions (i.e. “Do you believe you can pray away gay”) and like most people, Palin has admitted she became irritated by the obvious aim of these questions. I don’t know if this is true. However, Couric could score a ten-strike if she released the full video of the interviews online and could prove Palin is lying. I doubt we will see this video, because I think Palin is telling the truth, and Couric would cut her own throat before admittiing she badgered this woman with hours and hours of absurd questions.

I don’t care what Palin reads. Or if she reads. If she had told Couric she reads the Times, Journal and Post everyday, I would have ABSOLUTELY no way to verify that information, and neither would Couric, so it’s pretty useless. Similarly, I have no idea what Barack Obama has read in the past, or what he reads now. I base my opinion on what he says and what he does.

I still don’t understand what’s so “gotcha” about asking someone what they read. Unless, of course, you don’t read and you can’ think of an answer. If you want to defend her on that, go ahead. But I’m leaning toward Ted’s sentiments on this one. It seems pretty ridiculous for her to pin all of this on Couric. If you don’t read, fine, you don’t read. But don’t blame that one someone else, and please don’t run for national office!

Oh, and it’s funny that she dropped the New York Times and Economist from her list this time. I wonder what hwe answer will be next time…

  • straitshooter straitshooter says:

tjl. It’s not a gotcha question, but it’s not relevant, because neither Couric nor any other journalist could possibly verify that information. Palin should have answered, but her answer could have been a lie, so what’s the point? Ask her about her record, or about her political ambitions, those are things you can fact-check, or that you can use to hold her feet to the fire in the future.

I don’t want Palin to run for President, but I still wonder why she stirs up so much venom. Why hate the woman when it’s so much easier (and more healthy) to strongly disagree with her politics?

  • MartiniShark MartiniShark says:

The reason this is a loaded question is right there in the headline. No matter how someone answers the GOTCHA comes when they begin sorting through all the periodicals that were not listed. “How can she speak authoritatively on domestic policy when she does not even read the Congressional record?!”

    Straitshooter,

I think it is based on fear that women may realize that can have it all without
    being a democrat.

  • ImNotBlue ImNotBlue says:

Why should we care if she reads Huff ‘n Puff or not? They’re a left-wing “news” site (although, in recent years they’ve moved away from the very blue they started in, and moved more towards hard news… but could hardly be called “unbiased” or “journalism”).

I think her point about reading a lot on the web is valid, however. I read a lot that comes from Drudge… but (as most people know), Drudge doesn’t write the articles, he only points to various sources. If I counted all the sources as “places I read,” well, I’d have a pretty big list. Perhaps this is just part of the “new-fangled interwebs.” People don’t read from a single source, or a particular source consistently… they read around. Maybe it’s just too broad of a question to answer.

  • Ted Ted says:

    straitshooter –

I can’t take people like “Sarah”, Glenn Beck, etc. seriously, they are a joke. I mean really, why bother? Beck sells fear, hysteria and a daily conspiracy theory. His motto ought to be, if you don’t pay attention to me, you will die. Palin and Beck have a knowledge base that’s a km wide and a cm deep but that is all their fans ask for. Sarah Palin is the Paris Hilton of politics and she ought to give a portion of her book royalties to John McCain and invite him over for linguini and moose balls. Having said all that I hope they both stick around for a long time because they are indeed entertaining in a Chuckles the Clown kind of way. And who doesn’t like Chuckles the Clown?!

Challenge “Sarah” on the issues? WHAT ISSUES? SHE’S A CLOWN.

Your level of respect for those who disagree with you, demonstrates exactly how “serious” of a commenter you are. If all you’ve got is hate directed at anyone who doesn’t see things “your way” (and by “your way,” I mean the way of those you allow to do your thinking for you, because it’s obvious you have no knowledge of any issue… that’s why you refrain from mentioning any actual issues… just generic garbage)… you can’t really complain that other people are “jokes.”

    Grow up.

  • Ted Ted says:

    ImNotBlue –

I’ll grow up when you grow another 60 IQ points. And don’t lecture me about respect and name calling…dumb ass!

Wow… so your civility and maturity depends on… me? Wow! You must really think highly of me to base so much of your persona upon me… I’m honored, really. Either that, or just like your political beliefs (which lay in what other people have said and told you to believe), you pass off responsibility to someone else, instead of thinking for yourself.

I wonder… should I feel burdened to have your life in my hands like this… or just sad that you can’t think on your own. Hmmm…

    CHECK PLEASE!!!

    dumb ass!

  • ImNotBlue ImNotBlue says:

Ouch… now you hurt my feelings…

  • shootfromthehip shootfromthehip says:

straitshooter what makes you think Palin was “telling the truth?” She lied about so much in the book already I’d take everything she says with a huge grain of salt.

Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart Fail to Eviscerate Sarah Palin

Hyperbole must be over. How else does one explain the extremely disappointing bits that Jon Stewart and Keith Olbermann did on Sarah Palin last night? Handed (thank you, I'm here all week) 3 days of Palin material that rivaled anything George W. Bush ever gave them, Olbermann could barely manage a molecule of spittle, let alone a lather, and Stewart deployed his seldom-used Nerf™ jokes.

O’Reilly: “Some Of These Tea Party People Are Nuts . . . They’re Crazy”

    video

The National Tea Party convention was held this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee, and has, predictably, been a hot topic on cable news. Tonight Bill O'Reilly took his turn, discussing the third party phenomenon/movement with Fox News pundit Brit Hume and offered a frank and candid assessment on some of the participants of the Tea Party movement. "Some of these tea party people are nuts! They are! They're crazy!" Video after the jump.
