Report: Andrew Breitbart Was In Talks To Do Show With Anthony Weiner For CNN (Updated)

The worlds of politics and media are so, so very strange. The recently departed Andrew Breitbart — who was, you’ll recall, instrumental in revealing the extent of former New York representative Anthony Weiner online flirtations — was in talks with CNN to host a show alongside Weiner, the Daily Mail reports.

The show would have been similar to Crossfire (not unlike CNN’s now-defunct program starring Eliot Spitzer and Kathleen Parker), with Breitbart taking on major issues and news items from a right-wing perspective, and Weiner providing a view from the left.

Adds the Daily News:

Confidants of Breitbart say he had some reservations about a CNN show but would probably have signed up for it. He was intrigued by the notion of a show with Weiner, believing it could be a vehicle for real discussion of ideas.

UPDATE: A CNN Spokesperson tells Mediaite that the story is false.

    That’s hard to swallow…

sounds like an interesting concept, sad the idea couldnt have been developed further

    Ok. RIP. Let’s move on!

Two highly opinionated, polarizing, bombastic, dogmatic folks talking about issues? Fireworks! We sure would not have learned anything enlightening, but, it would have been f*cking entertaining! This should have happened.

This is yet another lower point for CNN. First Eliot Spitzer, then Weiner?!

So basically if you’re an out of work busted for a sex scandal politician CNN will always have a job waiting for you.

right..because an organisation that helped poor people get involved in politics was so wrong

dont be a sheep or a moron, watch the unedited james o’keefe/pimp/acorn video
the acorn guy reported them afterwards

  • Centrist79

CNN already said this was false.

Yeah, much love for AB, but man that show would get so out of hand. I mean, two VERY opinionated guys like that…would be more chair throwing than Monday Night RAW.

Hmmmmm….can’t say I remember hearing all about the several acorn employees who called up the cops on O’Keefe.

But you believe what you want, hun. MUAH!

This headline would have been more believable had it been on the Onion.

“UPDATE: A CNN Spokesperson tells Mediaite that the story is false.”

Journalism at its finest — retyping something from the Daily Mail without bothering to check whether it is true.

I heard Tommy Christopher is going to do a show on Logo with Matt Drudge and Jeff Gannon.

If this was true CNN was just looking to have a nightly train wreck with no news or information value.  Just a nightly reality show fight that would appeal to the lowest common denominator and only serve to lower the level of public discourse.

It’s just like the level of flashy electronic eye candy CNN is enamoured with, it adds nothing and more often than not makes them look stupid.  Maybe they like being the brunt of jokes on The Daily Show for their latest bit of on air technological stupidity.  They would be better off spending their money on people resources like reporters, editors, staff ect.. rather than little holographic weeble people that waste money adding nothing to the product.  People go to movies for special effects, they watch news for who, what, when, where, and why if they got back to that they might get out of the ratings gutter.

It’s Whitney Houston all over again!

  • The Real Royal Emperor

You mean like Dick “Toes” Morris and Newton LeRoy Gingrich? CNN should be ashamed for hiring them.

Let’s see Mediaite.  What kind of credibility are you looking for by publishing tinfoil hat rumors found in the comment threads to blogs no one reads except apparently your bored “researchers”?

I doubt Weiner would be want to found dead in the same room with Batfart, and I am sure the converse is true.  (Oops, did I just use a metaphor in poor taste?)

Anyway, this kind of “journalism” is on the level of Fox Noise:  O’Reilly sends his ambush boy Jesse out to get some well known liberal to deny something written on the wall of a dirty stall of a gas station toilet.  And when the ambush target tries to take a punch at the boy Jesse who deserves the black eye, the video gets edited with a mash showing Nazi salutes and Koreans doing gymnastics for Dear Leader.

Hey even The National Enquirer is looking down its nose at you, Mediaite.

Look up the phrase “stay classy” and maybe get help from a translator.

Rumor has it that title of the show was going to be “Show Me Your Weiner!!”…. or “Andy and His Weiner”… (but, you didn’t hear it from me.)

  • Anonymous

If this is correct, about possible show, it goes to show you what anybody will do for money & or face time on TV!

  • Trucking

Was Weiner going to show it again?
