Susan Rice To Meet With GOP Critics, Including John McCain, Lindsey Graham

Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham have been among Ambassador Susan Rice‘s biggest critics, following the attack on the U.S consulate in Benghazi, even saying they’d block Rice potential nomination for Secretary of State. Recently, however, McCain expressed a willingness to sit down with Rice and discuss the attack — and on Tuesday, McCain, along with Graham and Sen. Kelly Ayotte, will be doing just that.

The meeting was requested by Rice’s office, according to the Washington Post. She will be accompanied by acting CIA Director Mike Morell. Rice is reportedly a frontrunner to replace current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in President Barack Obama‘s second term.

She has been harshly criticized for the inaccurate remarks she made following the Benghazi attack, during her appearances on Sunday talk shows — namely, that the attack was triggered by an anti-Islam video and not a coordinated act of terrorism. Since then, it has been reported that she was speaking from talking points, which had reportedly been edited to remove the reference to al Qaeda.

During his appearance on Fox News Sunday, McCain softened his criticism of Rice, expressing a desire to meet with her. “I’d give everyone the benefit of explaining their position and the actions that they took. I’d be glad to have the opportunity to discuss these issues with her,” he said.
