Would Rachel Maddow Be A Good Senator?

Hat tip to Politico’s Michael Calderone for digging through the web archives for this Sunday’s much talked-about Meet The Press to find this gem: Mike Murphy and Rachel Maddow going off about a prospective Maddow For Senate campaign.

Maddow isn’t exactly pulling a 2008 Chris Matthews; she’s not too keen on the idea. The exchange came up in response to an email from a viewer, which asked “Rachel, do you think you would be a good Senator? Or are your opinions too set? Could you wheel and deal? Could you forge bipartisan consensus?”

Maddow’s answer: a firm ‘no.’ “It depends, I think, in part on whether you want your daily job to be participating in a big group decision with other legislators. That’s really what legislating is, right? You’re trying to come up with a group decision among these hundred or among your committee or among your subcommittee about how to move forward, and I’m bad at that.”

Murphy, for his part, said he’d be “a great czar,” but a lousy senator. But he had a serious point as well: that more people in the opinion journalism world should run for public office, if only to learn what campaigns — and actual voters — are really like.

Never mind what Maddow says about herself, though: do you think she’d be a good Senator?

Rachel would make a fantastic senator, but only if we’re replacing Chuck Schumer.

    No.

I often complain about the bias on Mediaite… but I gotta hand it to you, Robert… putting “Glenn Beck” in as a poll choice was pretty funny. Bravo!

Complaining about bias on Mediaite is getting tiresome. Just because a website isn’t blatantly conservative by trashing liberals left and right doesn’t mean it’s biased.

  • ImNotBlue

True… but then again, a website that spends the majority of it’s time trashing conservatives might just be. I know, I know, M… to you, that’s just “facts,” not opinion or an attack… but that’s because your blue-colored glasses prevent you from being objective.

Anyway… I thought Quigley poll choice of “Glenn Beck” was pretty funny. It made me chuckle into my morning coffee.

Just saying that just because Mediaite doesn’t look like FoxNation.com doesn’t mean it’s liberal. Conservatives are hyper sensitive when it comes to everything because they want to leverage the bias-claim as much as possible.

  • ImNotBlue

Yes… you’re right M. Now, which network do you and your Liberal buddies want off the air? Oh, and which network did the President recently snub? And which network has more insults, attacks, nasty websites, and hosts at a competing network attacking nightly? Wait, you say it’s FNC… and it’s because of their perceived bias?! Really?

Wow… oh, I’m sorry, I interrupted. Please, continue to tell me about how it’s the right who’s “too sensitive.”

Are you even capable of recognizing hypocrisy?
