ABC’s Coverage Of Famine In Africa Leads Viewers To Donate $100,000 In One Night
The group Doctors Without Borders says it received more than $100,000 in donations in a matter of hours after ABC News aired a report on the unfolding famine in Africa–considered the worst humanitarian disaster in the world. ABC’s David Muir, who reported from the region for a week and a half, says an estimated 29,000 Somali children aged 5 and under have died in just the last three months.
Muir–the first American anchor to report from Somalia and Kenya during the crisis–returned home Wednesday night to learn his reporting had touched ABC News viewers, who made more than $100,000 dollars in donations to Doctors Without Borders between 6:30 p.m. (when ABC World News airs) and midnight. Muir reported on the overwhelming response to the famine Thursday. Watch it here, from ABC News:
