Former CNBC SVP Jonathan Wald Will Be Executive Producer Of Piers Morgan Tonight
Piers Morgan Tonight, the program that will replace Larry King Live in January 2011, began to take shape this morning, when CNN announced that TV vet Jonathan Wald will serve as Morgan’s executive producer.
From 2006 to 2009, Wald was CNBC’s senior vice president. There, he helped the network develop its multimedia presence and oversaw an expansion of business coverage into prime time and weekends; CNN says that this resulted in CNBC’s highest-ever ratings and revenue. Before that, Wald was executive producer of NBC’s Today and Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, and has served as an advisor to AOL.
Here’s what Ken Jautz, CNN’s new President, had to say about Wald: “Jonathan has spent more than 20 years as a top producer in broadcast and cable television news and has the unique ability to produce television that is smart and provocative. We are thrilled that he’ll be joining the CNN family.”
Wald, Morgan and Jautz certainly have an uphill battle to fight—as we’ve noted, CNN’s ratings have been low all year. Still, it’s clear they’ve assembled a top team; we’re looking forward to learning more about Morgan’s show as details continue to emerge.
