ratings

Cable news ratings, June 1, 2011:

•HLN’s Nancy Grace had the highest rated non-Fox show on cable news Wednesday, with 1,345,000 total viewers–more than any other show on HLN, MSNBC or CNN. Among viewers 25-54, Grace had 441,000 viewers, which was the fourth-highest rated show on cable news overall, behind Fox’s Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity.

Coverage of the Casey Anthony murder trial has brought huge numbers of viewers to Grace and other HLN shows, with the network edging ahead of MSNBC and CNN into second place at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

•With Ed Schultz finishing up his five day suspension for remarks made on his radio show, The Ed Show has hardly lost steam in the ratings. Wednesday, with substitute host had an average audience of 252,000 viewers (25-54), well ahead of CNN’s Anderson Cooper, who had 191,000. The Ed Show was just 20,000 viewers behind first place finisher Greta Van Susteren on Fox News.

Having watched this trial, it is becoming apparent that Casey Anthony has stolen a page from the movie ” The Usual Suspects.”

Those who have seen it will know what I’m talking about. Those that haven’t, a little background.

The film follows the interrogation of Roger “Verbal” Kint, a small-time con man who is one of only two survivors of a massacre and fire on a ship docked at the Port of Los Angeles. He tells an interrogator a convoluted story about events that led him and four other criminals to the boat, and of a mysterious mob boss known as Keyser Söze who commissioned their work. Using flashback and narration, Kint’s story becomes increasingly complex.”

The story Kint tells is very detailed and believable to the police. He convinces the police to release him and search for the mysterious Keyser Soze, who Kint says was responsible for the murders.

After releasing Kint, the detective realizes with a shock that details and names from Kint’s story are culled from various objects around the room – including the office’s crowded bulletin board and the “Kobayashi Porcelain Company” logo on the bottom of his coffee cup. The detective realizes that most of Kint’s story was improvised for his benefit and chases after him, running past a fax machine as it receives the police artist’s impression of Keyser Söze’s face, which resembles Kint!!!.

Casey Anthony blames a nanny named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez for kidnapping her daughter and taking her away and killing her. Casey gives police many names, details, phone numbers, etc. weaving a fantasy tale that is enriched with some truth but mostly lies to make herself more convincing. The names are of real people but Casey completely manufactures a story around them , carefully placing each character into a specific role.

In the end, Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez is Casey’s Keyser Söze- a real person, who had absolutely nothing to do with Casey’s daughters death, – because all along, Casey WAS Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez!!!!!!

I think once I heard that she is saying her dad and brother sexually abused her, put me over the line against her. I now consider her to be evil. When someone is desperate, they are willing to do and say anything to get them out of that situation.

  • NonElite

I would think a two minute update every other day on the Casey Anthony story is adequate coverage. I’m just not wired like those people and I don’t understand the fastination.

  • Nachi

And 1.1 million of them are common Murcuhn hillbillies. Trial could be interesting were it not that all spokespeople are completely Nancyized. Survivable only by lugnut mentalities. Gawd – it’s awful.

This only demonstrates that Fox Fans will switch channels for more salacious news coverage.
    Just keep lowering the bar.
Fox Fans can’t jump very high.
