Jake Tapper: Republicans Too ‘Rabid,’ Liberals Too ‘Flip’ About Benghazi

CNN host Jake Tapper offered some bipartisan criticism of the political class regarding how both sides of the aisle discuss the deadly 2012 attack on an American consulate in Benghazi. Tapper admonished his conservative and liberal guest on Monday over the rhetorical excesses that both sides indulge in when talking about the subject and how it relates to the political aspirations of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“I think Benghazi is a serious issue,” Tapper told National Review Senior Editor Ramesh Ponnuru. “Sometimes I feel like Republicans get a little rabid about it.”

Tapper added that the subject was an important one, but GOP operatives can at times engage in “conspiracy theories” surrounding that event.

Tapper offered a similar criticism of Democrats when he turned to Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden.

“I do think that sometimes liberals are a little flip about it,” Tapper added. “There are serious questions that bipartisan investigations have concluded that the State Department failed in providing adequate security and the intelligence committee – Senate Intelligence Committee said it was preventable.”
