Jimmy Fallon Solves Olbermann-Beck Beef

video

fallon_9-9Sometimes on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the host invites two audience members to assume the personalities of feuding celebrities.

After the recent back-and-forth between MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann and FNC’s Glenn Beck, Fallon decided to jump in and solve the beef before it got to O’Reilly-Olbermann-like proportions.

It began by each taking shots at each other. “There’s a reason your show has lost 33 advertisers this year,” said Fake Keith Olbermann. “Which in your case, works out to one advertiser for every IQ point.”

“You’re so liberal even Ben Affleck made fun of you,” said Fake Glenn Beck. “Which is sort of like Paris Hilton calling Kim Kardashian a slut.” Damn!

Then the slow music kicked in and Fallon began to solve the beef between the recently feuding hosts. The most notable part of the segment – Fallon’s shots at fellow NBCU-er Olbermann. It was all in good fun though. We’ll find out if Keith takes it that way tonight…

Here’s the beef solving in action:

  • I wonder WHAT Olbermann would talk, er fuss about, IF he didn’t have Glen Beck to tear apart every night? To me, he has nothing to say about ANYONE unless it pertains to his love, BHO. I don’t know why he doesn’t just go to the WH and stay up there with him. That way, maybe we wouldn’t have to listen to him on MSNBC, since Obama seems to own that also. Actually, I do not EVER watch him, I just had to see what this program had to say. OLBERMANN STINKS, GLEN BECK IS VERY GOOD AND HAS A VERY HIGH RATING. NOT one that is so low, as Olbermann’s!! That isn’t the end of that thought, because his ratings are going down, even as I write.

What would Glenn Beck and all the other Fox News personalities talk about if they didn’t have MSNBC to tear apart every night? The Fox News channel during the Bush years was way closer to a state-run media than what MSNBC is today; Tony Snow becoming the press secretary and Karl Rove jumping ship to become a FNC contributor. Nuff said.

m… that’s just silly. Come on, be serious. Here we go:

1- FOX doesn’t “tear about MSNBC every night.” In fact, they only a rare occasions talk about them… and certainly not as much as Olbermann talks about FOX. I think you’d be hard pressed to find an evening where KO didn’t mention FNC at least once… whether it’s a full segment, or a mention in the WPITW, it’s quite literally every night with that guy.

2- How was FNC “state run media?” Exactly what examples can you give me (and I hope they’re better than the ones I pick apart below)?

3- Tony Snow began his career as a journalist and television pundit well before FNC ever came along. Taking a break from that, he worked for President George H.W. Bush (the first one), as speech writer and then “Deputy Assistant to the President for Media Affairs.” (This is all Wiki stuff.) After that ended, then he went back to media stuff and joined FNC in a variety of different positions, until he left to join the Bush Administration in 2006.

The point is, this is someone who had a long career BEFORE FNC… and if you really want to play that game, compare Snow’s FNC to WH, with all the former journalists currently working for the Obama Administration… including: Rosa Brooks (LA Times), Linda Douglass (ABC), Jay Carney (Time Magazine), Peter Gosselin (LA Times), Jill Zuckman (Tribune), etc. The fact is, every president winds up hiring someone in “the media” to work for them… mostly because they’re often well educated, know the subject matter, and have good experience communicating the message. Snow’s appointment isn’t the “evidence” you think it is.

4- Karl Rove would have been sucked up by ANY network willing to fork over the dollars. Ex-insiders are always getting scooped up. What about Howard Dean now working for MSNBC, or Harold Ford Jr. on MSNBC, or even Geraldine Ferraro at FNC? Are those also “Nuff said” examples? This is media, and big names help get bigger ratings… but for you to align them with “obvious bias” either means you’re not familiar enough with the business, or your selective outrage is only focused on what you perceive to be “non-Democrat friendly” outlets. Either way, no good.

Obama’s Final Push On Health Care To Democratic Caucus On Capitol Hill

    video

President Barack Obama spoke in the conference hall of the Capitol today about the health care reform bill which is coming close to meeting enough votes to pass in the House of Representatives, which earlier today decided not use the "deem and pass" strategy to railroad the bill through Congress. "I know this is a tough vote for some of you," said our president, adding "Don't do it for Nancy Pelosi, or Harry Reid, or me. Do It for the American People." Pay attention folks, this speech is definitely one for the history books.
