Lawrence O’Donnell: “There’s A Way To Avoid Being Hated–I Can Do The F***ing Weather”

The man Glenn Beck described as MSNBC’s “new, hot lover boy,” Lawrence O’Donnell, has given a fascinating interview to WWD. In the story by Alexandra Steigrad, O’Donnell talks about the departure of Keith Olbermann from the network, and how he accepts that some people hate him: “There’s a way to avoid being hated — I can do the f–ing weather.”

O’Donnell, who says cable news types like Beck–and himself–are, to a degree, putting on an act:

All men in makeup are playing a part,” said Lawrence O’Donnell from beneath a coating of thick, tinted foundation, following a live broadcast of his MSNBC show “The Last Word.”

As O’Donnell ascends to the 8 p.m. hour vacated by Olbermann, MSNBC president Phil Griffin says the network has every confidence losing its groundbreaking star will not change the network or its success–and O’Donnell can be a worthy replacement:

“I’m thrilled to have him kicking off prime time. Our vision is unchanged, as is our goal — to beat Fox.”

Being WWD, we also get some insight into O’Donnell’s fashion choices, and for those of you who enjoy this stuff, here’s a taste:

I enjoy his honesty. He’s a brave man for venturing into WWD. That is, without the slightest irony or sarcasm, a tough interview.

Socks can be very important. The high point of my days this winter has been going home, taking off the old Goldtoes, and slipping into a pair of Columbia wools.

How very said it is you believe people select their information sources solely on the basis of ideology. I happen to like a wide variety of sources. While I think FOX “News” sucks better than a Hoover, I do have some conservative sources I greatly enjoy. I suppose some people simply seek out sources which will make them comfortable with their prejudices.

Sorry Larry, I at times hate my weatherman too… telling me to breakout the sunglasses and shorts only to be greeted with ominus clouds with a chance of hail.

Your refreshing honestly is your best bet. People may not like it but they will respect it. We know where you firmly stand and in a world of film flam chameleon politicians and pundits, that is indeed refreshing.

When the Government Grant money, for the upcoming ICE AGE, ran out in the early 70′s , it switch to even bigger Grant Money for Global Warming. And they had ole’ honest Al (Al Gore) & Michael Moore singing its praises. Warning us of the dooms day was within site.

Their soul goal is to beat Fox? Seriously? To beat another network? I thought a news network’s goal, whether it’s on broadcast or cable, was to report or opine on the news. Knowing this, now I understand why they have the loons they have on in primetime. But does it really explain this craziness?

Never in my life have I EVER seen or heard of any cable or TV channel with any other goal than to run programming that was in alignment with their viewers needs and interest. But to be in existence solely to beat someone else? Again… SERIOUSLY??

I admit that we can not really tell if it is caused by carbon emissions, that is, if it is man made, but those ice caps are definitely melting. And the temperature readings by scientists all over the world do confirm that on average the earth is getting warmer. Setting aside the issue of whether we cause or effect global warming, do you accept the notion that the average temperature is increasing, and that the caps are melting? Your view is that the science of global warming is a world-wide scam?

Just looking at the ratings over the past few months, NO one has beaten Fox in ANY time slot. Not saying that it couldn’t happen, just saying that it hasn’t happened yet.
