Maher, Alex Wagner Battle Conservatives on Campaign Finance: ‘Idiots’ Are Breaking the System!
Bill Maher and MSNBC’s Alex Wagner took on conservative columnist Carrie Sheffield and ex-Republican congreeman Tom Davis Friday over the Supreme Court’s campaign finance ruling, with Maher crying that John Roberts is either “a liar or he is too naïve to hold any important job” for a ruling that looks like it was “written by the little mermaid.”
Maher recalled a phrase that “the Constitution was created by geniuses so idiots could ruin it,” remarking, “I think the idiots have found a way to break it.” Wagner argued liberals have embraced modern history while the right is stuck on “colonial history.”
Sheffield brought up “failed candidates who pumped millions” into their races and said cracking down on term limits would be a way of limiting corruptive influences, but Wagner went off on the Supreme Court, saying they’re simultaneously giving the rich more influence on elections while preventing minorities from voting.
At one point, Maher got so exasperated with Sheffield and Davis, he cried, “Your arguments don’t follow, because you don’t have good arguments!”
