Cable news ratings, July 22, 2010: Check out the highlights, and see the full ratings below:

Rachel Maddow further cemented her place as a ratings player at MSNBC, especially in Keith Olbermann’s absence, with a strong performance Thursday night. Her 9pmET show nearly doubled Larry King in the A25-54 demographic and was the only non-FNC program to have more than one million total viewers.

Rick Sanchez‘ first night in prime time for CNN didn’t bring big ratings – he had the least viewers in both categories among all CNN programs.

Yes, but when looking at Rachel’s ratings, we must take into account the world’s population and all the other networks and DVD sales and if it’s raining and so on.

O’Reilly at just under 1% and the Beckerhead at well, well under 1/2 of 1%.

    Everyone is watching FOX News.

No, King, you don’t say no one is watching. You just point out that their audience is a teeny, tiny sliver of the population and almost no one is watching. Except when you want to talk about the Sherrod story, and then Fox is such a huge power that it can sway government opinion, before they even air a story. Do you ever actually stop and think about what you’re saying, King? How you actually contradict yourself daily?

If a network has ten million viewers but they are all children, like the Cartoon Network, then there is a network that has 3 million viewers and they are voters, which is going to influence Obama and RRK?

I think Maddow’s show tends to be awful. Unbelievably so. However, she does some good reporting, and she has an amazingly quick, sharp analytical mind. One of my favorite shows was McLaughlin. Don’t you think Maddow would be a brilliant host for a show with a mix of liberal and traditional thought, but absence the morons and Crackers, in a McLaughlin-like format?

I’m not a fan of Oberman’s sarcastic style. I like Rachel but wish she’d stop with so much. But it’s not as if we don’t get sarcasm from right wing pundits Rachel tends to research her stories better and for giving a dam about the facts, I like her.

Rachel made a great point the other night after BillO pointed out that he killed her in the ratings. She agreed, even showed the ratings. She also, pointed out that Wrestling, The deadliest catch, and the Closer kill both of them. Sadly the American public wants entertainment more than it wants to be informed.
The point is a news commentator ought to be concerned about the facts rather than willfully distort them. I predict her ratings will go up because she took on Fox and righteously so.

  • notsofast notsofast says:
Thumb up 2 Thumb down 1

Folks- we might want to rethink our opinion of Sherrod. many of us have said she is indeed a racist based on her comments.

“You know, I haven’t seen such a mean-spirited people as I’ve seen lately over this issue of health care. Some of the racism we thought was buried. Didn’t it surface? Now, we endured eight years of the Bush’s and we didn’t do the stuff these Republicans are doing because you have a black President.”

She also accused Fox News of racism, telling Strupp that “they are after a bigger thing, they would love to take us back to… where black people were looking down, not looking white folks in the face, not being able to compete for a job out there and not be a whole person.”

“Breitbart wants to take us back to the days of slavery.”

But usually such racist statements do not occur in a vacuum. They usually don’t come out of nowhere.

So I think we should at least listen to see if her husband also speaks of things from a racial prism before we conclude she is a racist.

Is Thursday the night Maddow spent the entire hour, showing Fox News clips? These people have no shame in exploiting Fox News, to increase their ratings. Maybe Murdoch should sue MSNBC. If Murdoch finds out MSNBC is using FNC clips to increase ratings, which leads to increased revenue, he may start charging MSNBC. If Murdoch goes after Google, for getting a free ride on the backs of News Corp. journalism, he’ll surely be tempted to go after MSNBC. LOL.

Chris Matthews: Where Do These Glenn Beck Characters Get Their “Weird-Ass” Flag And God Ideas

    video

I think it's entirely possible, judging by the continued tone of amazement in his voice, that Chris Matthews discovered Glenn Beck for the first time on August 28th. Today Matthews called out Beck again, complaining that "nothing is more bothersome to me...this notion that somehow only conservative and right-wingers are patriotic is nonsense!" He went on.

Obama: ‘You Didn’t Elect Me To Read The Polls And Figure Out How To Stay In Office’

    video

President Obama gave an impassioned speech on the economy today in Parma, Ohio, and seemed to not only go after his GOP adversaries, but also addressed his rather bleak poll numbers of late. Sounding at times like his speechwriter was Aaron Sorkin (creator of West Wing), Obama referenced other great Republican presidents like Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, and yes, even Ronald Reagan, claiming that they were "serious leaders for serious times." Could this be the renaissance of Barack Obama's mojo?
