Rachel Maddow Nearly Doubles Larry King With Huge Ratings Thursday
» 54 commentsCable news ratings, July 22, 2010: Check out the highlights, and see the full ratings below:
• Rachel Maddow further cemented her place as a ratings player at MSNBC, especially in Keith Olbermann’s absence, with a strong performance Thursday night. Her 9pmET show nearly doubled Larry King in the A25-54 demographic and was the only non-FNC program to have more than one million total viewers.
• Rick Sanchez‘ first night in prime time for CNN didn’t bring big ratings – he had the least viewers in both categories among all CNN programs.

Chris Matthews: Where Do These Glenn Beck Characters Get Their “Weird-Ass” Flag And God Ideas

I think it's entirely possible, judging by the continued tone of amazement in his voice, that Chris Matthews discovered Glenn Beck for the first time on August 28th. Today Matthews called out Beck again, complaining that "nothing is more bothersome to me...this notion that somehow only conservative and right-wingers are patriotic is nonsense!" He went on.

Obama: ‘You Didn’t Elect Me To Read The Polls And Figure Out How To Stay In Office’

President Obama gave an impassioned speech on the economy today in Parma, Ohio, and seemed to not only go after his GOP adversaries, but also addressed his rather bleak poll numbers of late. Sounding at times like his speechwriter was Aaron Sorkin (creator of West Wing), Obama referenced other great Republican presidents like Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, and yes, even Ronald Reagan, claiming that they were "serious leaders for serious times." Could this be the renaissance of Barack Obama's mojo?

Just imagine the ratings if Snooki dropped by >
Yes, but when looking at Rachel’s ratings, we must take into account the world’s population and all the other networks and DVD sales and if it’s raining and so on.
O’Reilly at just under 1% and the Beckerhead at well, well under 1/2 of 1%.
Everyone is watching FOX News.
THE FOX NETWORK:
WE LIE ABOUT THINGS GREAT,
EVEN, ABOUT THINGS SMALL.
WE NEVER SHOOT STRAIGHT,
NEVER TELL THE TRUTH AT ALL.
Now how did I know that was coming?
Now in his next post, the King will be explaining how Fox is all powerful and is shaking the entire government to its core.
You can’t say I said no one watches FOX.
THE FOX NETWORK:
WE LIE ABOUT THINGS GREAT,
EVEN, ABOUT THINGS SMALL.
WE NEVER SHOOT STRAIGHT,
NEVER TELL THE TRUTH AT ALL.
Fox does force the White House to act stupidly with just the power of their minds, so there’s that.

Now how did I know that was coming?
Because King is nothing if not horribly predictable.
No, King, you don’t say no one is watching. You just point out that their audience is a teeny, tiny sliver of the population and almost no one is watching. Except when you want to talk about the Sherrod story, and then Fox is such a huge power that it can sway government opinion, before they even air a story. Do you ever actually stop and think about what you’re saying, King? How you actually contradict yourself daily?
MSNBC is still a joke. So in the battle of the ants at MSNBC Maddow is a slightly bigger ant.
Admittedly, only the sophisticated understand nuance, but I appreciate your admitting I said “no one is watching” is incorrect.
But a O’Reilly rerun cleans her clock every night.
so in your world, 300 million people are watching TV and they are only watching FOX?
LOl
King, if by nuance you mean that you constantly contradict yourself and are as crazy as a shit house rat, then I agree that you’re using nuance.
If a network has ten million viewers but they are all children, like the Cartoon Network, then there is a network that has 3 million viewers and they are voters, which is going to influence Obama and RRK?
The question is not the numbers watching it is WHO is watching.
RRK has discredited himself all weekend. He has repeated lies over and over. The poor guy needs help. He doesn’t even know his real name.
What they are saying is that Maddow is the most successful failure at MSNBC.
I think Maddow’s show tends to be awful. Unbelievably so. However, she does some good reporting, and she has an amazingly quick, sharp analytical mind. One of my favorite shows was McLaughlin. Don’t you think Maddow would be a brilliant host for a show with a mix of liberal and traditional thought, but absence the morons and Crackers, in a McLaughlin-like format?
THE FOX NETWORK:
WE LIE ABOUT THINGS GREAT,
EVEN, ABOUT THINGS SMALL.
WE NEVER SHOOT STRAIGHT,
NEVER TELL THE TRUTH AT ALL.
Only if she is contractually obligated to continue using her “funny” voice.
Maddow has disagreed with Obama on gay marriage and Afghanistan. And we know that anyone disagreeing with Obama is only doing so because they fear having a black man in the White House.
I don’t much care for that, either. Maybe, we should send her a jar of Vick’s Vaporub (or, is is Metholatum?) and let her cry instead.
THE FOX NETWORK:
WE LIE ABOUT THINGS GREAT,
EVEN, ABOUT THINGS SMALL.
WE NEVER SHOOT STRAIGHT,
NEVER TELL THE TRUTH AT ALL.
Thanks for reaffirming your racism.
RM is too much of an ideologue to host such a show. She would the ?? version of Maher.
She has too much intellectual integrity.
THE FOX NETWORK:
WE LIE ABOUT THINGS GREAT,
EVEN, ABOUT THINGS SMALL.
WE NEVER SHOOT STRAIGHT,
NEVER TELL THE TRUTH AT ALL.
According to the King, all white conservatives are rich and privileged. According to the King, all white conservatives are poor trailer trash. According to the King, Fox is powerful enough to sway government decisions. According to the King, virtually no one watches Fox. To summarize: The King is as crazy as a shit house rat.
Well, I am off to a fundraiser at the Jiang Qing Center.
Have a great afternoon.
THE FOX NETWORK:

Or they could have on poodles riding little bicycles, after a Kent Jones segment, to round things out.

what’s funny is when you have this many shitheels flinging spitballs
you know you’re right on target. Seems you are as popular as the
bloggers-too bad your audience here are most insufferably ignorant
cretins.
But obviously you live in writer’s mind rent free as he recalls your
every missive.
Cheers and keep on keepin on!
Boot, since the King has alternately argued that all whites are both rich and poor, and that Fox is both powerful and has almost no viewers, you have truly hitched you wagon to a shining star.
I think you are off to raise money for the proposed NYC mosque.
Remember to take off you shoes- if not, they will cut your head off. It is one of those endearing Islamic things they do, but who are we to judge.
Uh, oh. Should say ‘your wagon’. The King is hell on typos.
And you are his #1 cretin!
If they cut off the King’s head, they’d better stand back from the blast of air to follow.
If they do cut it off, he will be losing 100 lbs. of ugly fat.
I think the King has left. The attendant must be coming around with the meds cart.
You know you are in trouble when your benchmark for ratings success is a flailing 76-year-old host with collapsing ratings who is being pushed off the air in a few months. But, yes, by that standard, Rachel Maddow is doing well. But it’s best not to talk about the million viewers who have abandoned Maddow in the last 20 months.
Madow’s ratings higher than larry king? wow thats exciting(lol) notice she still can’t hold hannity’s jock strap. and her homo partner olbermann can’t compete with Bill either
If you watch maddow and olbermann the only thing they do is make sarcastic remarks and comments about anybody that doesn’t agree with their politics. obama could have the statue of liberty removed and a statue of Lenin put in its place and they would be in complete and total agreement with it.
I’m not a fan of Oberman’s sarcastic style. I like Rachel but wish she’d stop with so much. But it’s not as if we don’t get sarcasm from right wing pundits Rachel tends to research her stories better and for giving a dam about the facts, I like her.
Rachel made a great point the other night after BillO pointed out that he killed her in the ratings. She agreed, even showed the ratings. She also, pointed out that Wrestling, The deadliest catch, and the Closer kill both of them. Sadly the American public wants entertainment more than it wants to be informed.
The point is a news commentator ought to be concerned about the facts rather than willfully distort them. I predict her ratings will go up because she took on Fox and righteously so.
Beating King is not a big thing.
As a matter of fact any decent show should be beating him nightly.
Now that he is leaving it probably makes viewers not watch him even more. He is a lame duck host.
Folks- we might want to rethink our opinion of Sherrod. many of us have said she is indeed a racist based on her comments.
“You know, I haven’t seen such a mean-spirited people as I’ve seen lately over this issue of health care. Some of the racism we thought was buried. Didn’t it surface? Now, we endured eight years of the Bush’s and we didn’t do the stuff these Republicans are doing because you have a black President.”
She also accused Fox News of racism, telling Strupp that “they are after a bigger thing, they would love to take us back to… where black people were looking down, not looking white folks in the face, not being able to compete for a job out there and not be a whole person.”
“Breitbart wants to take us back to the days of slavery.”
But usually such racist statements do not occur in a vacuum. They usually don’t come out of nowhere.
So I think we should at least listen to see if her husband also speaks of things from a racial prism before we conclude she is a racist.

Yes, back in the days of B/W television, about the same time you had your last original thought.
Rachel Maddow is smart and fair and she does not B.S. I understand why there are so many negative comments form many of you. You don’t get it!!!
Hey Hannity you and your lies are going down. It’s just a matter of time. Without O”Reilly ahead of you you’re nothing and you know it.
Uh huh, yeah, because we’re to supid to get it, right ?… Wrong !!… It’s not that we dont get it… Its that we dont agree with most (all)
of what she is pushing…
I don’t know about fair. She has an agenda, and very predictable with people she wants to berate. She pounds them for 5 minutes, lets them try to defend themselves for 5 minutes ,and then comes on the next night and pounds them again when they can’t defend themselves. Did you see the look on her face when they found the worker hanging from a tree in the rural backwoods with FED etched in his skin?.I think she got a chubby. If somebody called and told her a redneck teabagger had been apprehended for the murder she would have had the big O on T.V. Good luck to the people who praise her work.
‘nearly double’ nothing is still nothing. …well, it is a little more than nothing i guess. i do want to be fair. :]
you didn’t just seriously say that rachel maddow is fair, did you? …Ok.. that was a joke. I do get it!
Sums it up pretty succinctly!!
Is Thursday the night Maddow spent the entire hour, showing Fox News clips? These people have no shame in exploiting Fox News, to increase their ratings. Maybe Murdoch should sue MSNBC. If Murdoch finds out MSNBC is using FNC clips to increase ratings, which leads to increased revenue, he may start charging MSNBC. If Murdoch goes after Google, for getting a free ride on the backs of News Corp. journalism, he’ll surely be tempted to go after MSNBC. LOL.
VERY well said.
She has neither intellect or integrity.
WAH! It’s not fair. Peope should be FORCED to watch Madcow, Overbite, Mouthyews, and all our favorite hacks and spin artists instead of that greedy old Fox News Channel. <—-Libtards opinions
