Steve Kornacki To Replace Chris Hayes As Host Of MSNBC Weekend Program Up

On Tuesday, MSNBC announced that Steve Kornacki, a columnist for and one of the co-hosts of The Cycle, will be moving to weekends to become the new host of Up. Chris Hayes, the current host of the weekend panel program, will depart the program to become the new anchor of MSNBC’s 8 p.m. prime time programming block starting on April 1.

Kornacki has served as one of the four hosts of The Cycle since the program’s debut in June, 2012. There, Kornacki developed a reputation as a thoughtful and informative political commentator with a deep knowledge of American electoral and political history.

Hayes has been the host of Up since its debut in September, 2011, but is slated to take over for the departing Ed Schultz next month in his prime time slot. The two hour panel program often features a roundtable of guests debating the issues of the day. It is unclear if Up with continue in its current format with Kornacki as host.
