Trump Claims He ‘Didn’t Authorize’ Retweet About Jeb’s Wife, but Also Doesn’t Regret It

A few days ago, Donald Trump was caught retweeting this swipe at Jeb Bush about his wife:

Anderson Cooper sat down with Trump today, and in a preview clip of their full interview, he brought up the retweet and asked Trump if he authorized it.

(Before reading further, there’s something you should understand if you already don’t: Trump’s Twitter feed is so often filled with lots of inane, idiosyncratic rambling that most of the time it’s very hard to believe anyone other than him is in charge of the whole thing.)

Trump told Cooper, “No, I didn’t authorize that.” He also said that “it was a retweet, it wasn’t me,” but then proceeded to defend the message behind the tweet––”If my wife were from Mexico, I think I would have a soft spot for people from Mexico”––and even said, “I don’t regret it.”

So he did not authorize the tweet and it was only a retweet but also it’s completely fair and he doesn’t regret it. Clear enough for ya?
