Joy Behar’s Ex-View Co-Host Snaps At Her for Questioning Carrie Underwood’s Patriotism Over Trump Inauguration: ‘Simmer Down!’
Former View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck blasted Joy Behar for questioning Carrie Underwood’s patriotism following the country singer agreeing to play President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
“[Joy Behar] needs to simmer down off my friend,” Hasselbeck wrote on social media in response to Behar.
Later on Tuesday, Hasselback went to Fox News with Sean Hannity to further air her grievances.
“I would have loved to have been at that table today. They’ve refused to put anyone there who has a lick of sense,” Hasselbeck said.
She served as co-host on The View from 2003 to 2013.
Behar’s criticism of Underwood got pushback even on the show, including from Whoopi Goldberg.
“I don’t understand how you say you love your country at the same time that you normalize this convicted felon,” Behar said about Underwood.
“She wants us to believe that [about] Carrie Underwood, who won American Idol by American votes, who had an album and tour called All-American Girl, who actually has spent more time on USO tours, serving and helping and donating money to our nation’s finest, our military, their families and our veterans – is about to perform ‘America the Beautiful’ at the historic event of the inauguration of the President of the United States of America,” Hasselbeck fired back.
Hasselbeck accused Behar of a “selfish personal publicity gain” with her Underwood comments, chalking it up to opportunism in the face of a sinking ship.
“She wants to attach her name to Carrie Underwood’s name so that she maintains relevance because they know the ship is sinking,” she said about her former show.
Hasselbeck argued Behar isn’t just questioning the patriotism of Underwood, but of other Americans too.
“Is every person that shows up on Inauguration Day, from security to custodial staff, un-American? Is that what Joy is saying?” she said.
Underwood will perform America the Beautiful at the inauguration.
