Whoopi Goldberg Rips Up Cautionary Note From Co-Host About Trump Using Autopen: ‘What The Hell??’
The View’s Whoopi Goldberg grew irate Monday when a co-host cautioned her about referring to President Donald Trump using an autopen to pardon Binance billionaire Changpeng Zhao, also known as CZ.
The dustup came as the co-hosts discussed Trump’s Sunday interview with 60 Minutes, during which the president claimed he had no idea who “CZ” was, even though he pardoned the crypto founder.
Sunny Hostin pointed out, “He pardoned Binance founder Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao, who pled guilty to money laundering and his family struck a $2 billion deal in partnership with him in a crypto venture. The Trump family has made about $1.8 billion profited off of this government and he said that Joe Biden didn’t know who he was pardoning using an autopen. How come you don’t know who this guy is?”
“Because he used an autopen!” Goldberg quipped.
The co-hosts then pivoted to talk about Trump saying ICE raids “haven’t gone far enough,” when Hostin reached across the table to hand a blue notecard to Goldberg.
“What the hell? What?” Goldberg said as Alyssa Farah Griffin exclaimed, “I love when Sunny passes notes!”
Goldberg read the note under her breath, saying, “We don’t know if Trump used an autopen to pardon — ” before looking up and declaring, “It was a joke!”
“Yes, we don’t know whether Trump used an autopen to pardon— ” Hostin said, prompting Goldberg to exclaim, “Oh, come on!”
Hostin finished her thought, saying, “but we do know that he doesn’t know who that crypto guy was.”
Goldberg made a show of ripping up the note card into tiny pieces as she said, “Well, I’m sorry. The hardest thing about this job now is no one understands nuance. You know when you hear a joke, when somebody’s fooling around, when they’re not saying something specific. Especially on this show! I’m very specific when I’m…pointing stuff out. When I’m making jokes you know when I’m making jokes! This is ridiculous.”
