Alan Dershowitz Rebukes Fmr Obama Ethics Czar: ‘I’m Not On Trump’s Side!’
Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz pushed back against allegations that he was on Team Trump amid ongoing scandals and investigations.
On CNN tonight, Dershowitz began by saying that the “best narrative” that President Trump and the White House have regarding the payment Michael Cohen made to Stormy Daniels was that as Trump’s personal “fixer,” Cohen was working on retainer and that the president “didn’t want to know specifics,” which he thought it created “more political problems than legal problems.”
Former Obama Ethics Czar Norm Eisen told Anderson Cooper that Rudy Giuliani‘s recent appearances on Fox News “exposed” Trump to a “felony charge of filing false presidential financial statements” as well as obstruction of justice charges regarding Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey.
“What a disaster!” Eisen exclaimed.
Dershowitz called the assertion that the payment to Stormy Daniels had nothing to do with the presidential campaign “not credible” and that it was difficult to believe that Trump was kept in the dark about the payoff just days before the election.
However, tensions rose when Eisen took a moment to give Dershowitz “some credit” for his remarks.
“I want to give Alan some credit because in acknowledging how ridiculous it is that the president wouldn’t know about this event from the get-go, he’s playing it straight,” Eisen said. “Of course the president knew about this, the problem is that as Alan admits, that reality puts the president in deep, deep legal jeopardy.”
Dershowitz immediately pushed back.
“But Norm, don’t give me credit. I’m not on Trump’s side! I’m not trying to help Trump. I’m trying to tell the American public what the law is and what the truth is. I have to tell you that I really do think that if they had played this straight from the very beginning what he did was probably not illegal.” Dershowitz told Eisen. “This has been terribly mishandled, but I’m not admitting anything, Norm, I’m saying it because I’m not on his side!”
