American Conservative Union’s Matt Schlapp: Jeff Flake Shouldn’t Claim to Speak for Conservatives
The Fox News Specialists took on Senator Jeff Flake on Wednesday over his criticism of President Trump and his new book Conscience of a Conservative.
Chairman of the American Conservative Union Matt Schlapp made it clear that despite the title of his book, Flake does not speak for conservatives. According to Schlapp, it may actually be Flake’s target of criticism––Donald Trump––who is espousing true conservative principles.
Host Eric Bolling declared that it was time to “make RINOs an endangered political species” and asked Schlapp if the party would be better without “the RINO-type” establishment Republicans.
“I wanna have a national party,” said Schlapp. “Which means that we’re gonna have some ideological differences.”
“You specifically are saying these Senators that failed to get behind the conservative platform that Trump is putting out there,” he continued. “It’s undeniably a conservative platform, even if you have disagreements here or there. It’s undeniable that if Hillary Clinton had won, she would have picked that Supreme Court opening. That alone can change a generation for America.”
The former political director for George W. Bush went on to discuss what he believes to be the devolvement of the conservative credentials of Senator Flake.
“I would say to these guys, Jeff Flake started out with a really strong American Conservative Union Congressional rating when he was in the House. He moved to the Senate, it started to lower. Now he’s in the 70’s,” Schlapp pointed out.
“He is really off his game. I think it’s inappropriate for him to say that he speaks for conservatives with this new book.”

“Brent Bozell came out,” noted Schlapp, “the son of the person who helped write the first Conscience of a Conservative for Barry Goldwater.”
“I thinks he’s really stepped in it this time,” he concluded.
