Bill Maher Urges Dems To ‘Win Back’ Elon Musk Amid Trump War: ‘We Call That a Gettable Voter’

Bill Maher shamed Democrats for pushing people like Elon Musk and Joe Rogan to the right and he declared now is the time to “win them back.”

On Friday’s Real Time, Maher mocked Democratic strategists calling for their own “liberal” Rogan.

“Okay, maybe, or you could consider this. Instead of conjuring up a new Joe Rogan, ask yourself why you lost the old one,” Maher said. “Because he used to be on your side. He smokes pot on the air. I don’t think he’s that much of a far right ideologue. I don’t think his mind is completely inflexible. His neck, yes. But not his mind.”

Before endorsing President Donald Trump in 2024, the most vocal Rogan had been in politics was backing Libertarian-leaning Republican Ron Paul in his failed attempt to become president.

Maher noted that Rogan has expressed some “unease” with parts of Trump’s agenda. The podcaster and comedian has sounded the alarm on the potential collateral damage from Trump’s mass deportations, as well as how he’s made some cuts in the government, including dropping USAID.

Maher compared Rogan to Musk, saying both are disgruntled with the administration — although Musk far more so. As Maher reported, Musk went from full support of Trump to be hesitant to criticizing him to taking things so far this week that he accused him of being in the “Epstein files.” Musk has taken issue with Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” arguing the massive budget will only add to the deficit, which runs counter to what Musk’s goals were as a special government employee with DOGE.

Maher called Musk “another guy who five years ago was thought of as a liberal, but got driven into the other camp by bad attitudes and bad ideas.”

Maher, who recently met with Trump at the White House, added he would never make the exact jump himself, comparing it to jumping out of a frying pan into a fire.

“They tried real hard to cancel Rogan a few years ago, and when Elon hosted Saturday Night Live in 2021, well before he was a Trumper, some of the cast members gave him the cold shoulder for the sin of being rich. You think people don’t remember when you do this shit to them that it’s not gonna have blowback?” Maher said.

The comedian argued now is the time to win the two major voices back.

“You do have to win them back. The good news is you can. Elon has gone from saying, ‘I love Donald Trump as much as a straight man can love another man,’ to a week ago saying, ‘I’m a little stuck in a bind here, I don’t want to speak against the administration, but I also don’t wanna take responsibility for everything they’re doing,'” he said. “And now, ‘I have proof he’s in the Epstein files.’ Okay. I think we call that a gettable voter.”

Maher argued Democrats need to stop being so afraid of Rogan and Musk and their more right-leaning views and take responsibility to driving the two men to the Republican side in the first place.

“I hear that all the time. They went to the dark side. Yeah, like they got that The Last of Us fungal infection and became zombies,” Maher said. “No, they just got driven away.”
