Bill O’Reilly and James Carville Throw Down Over Trump Admin’s Obama ‘Treason’ Claim: ‘This Is Idiotic!’
Bill O’Reilly and James Carville threw down on Wednesday over allegations of a “treasonous conspiracy” by former President Barack Obama and others from the current administration.
O’Reilly and Carville joined NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo, who made it clear he did not see the meat on the bone when it comes to allegations against Obama and his officials. Cuomo chalked it up to a “headline searching for a story.”
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has accused Obama and others in his administration of taking part in a “treasonous conspiracy” against President Donald Trump in 2016. Multiple intelligence reports concluded that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, but Gabbard is now claiming that the conclusion that Russia favored Trump was based on manufactured information.
Both the Mueller Report and a Senate Intelligence Committee report concluded that Russia meddled in the election and favored Trump.
Trump has completely backed Gabbard, demanding accountability and flat-out accusing Obama of “treason.”
On Wednesday, Cuomo called the story a “distraction” from the “Epstein Files” fallout. O’Reilly, however, argued that former CIA Director John Brennan could end up being indicted, citing a newly-released report from the House casting doubt on Brennan’s conclusions about Russia favoring Trump.
Carville equated the debate around Gabbard’s claims to arguing whether the Earth is round or not.
The longtime Democratic strategist said:
Let’s put an end to all this nonsense. The Senate Intelligence Committee in 2016, headed by Marco Rubio, bipartisan, unanimously said Russia tried to interfere on behalf of Trump. What are we arguing about? The Mueller Report said that. This is idiotic. Let’s just call it what it is. And please, fact check me, please do that, okay? And then let’s put this aside. This is all nonsense. Complete, utter nonsense that’s been spelled 100 times. Of course Russia tried to interfere. Of course it tried to intervene on the behalf of Trump. We know that. What are we arguing about? Who won the Civil War?
O’Reilly took Carville’s fact-checking challenge up, which led to a debate about the various dates of reports on Russian election interference.
He said:
I want to give James Carville anything that he wants, and he asked to be fat-checked, so here I am. The Senate report, Marco Rubio, was two years before the House [Intelligence] report, number one. The Senate report said that Putin tried to meddle in the election, which is true. The House report upped it to discombobulating the Russian collusion whereby Putin’s minions met with Donald Trump Jr., had people inside the Trump campaign, had a coordinated effort. That’s a lot different than meddling. Two different reports, two years apart. Way different conclusions, but it is the same bill.
Cuomo jumped in to argue that the House Intelligence report being cited was drafted by Republicans.
“Mueller was 2017, the House report was 2018. Mueller concluded in 2019,” Cuomo told Carville as he tried getting the timeline straight.
Carville predicted nothing concrete would come of the accusations despite Gabbard repeatedly saying she’s referring documents to the Department of Justice.
“The earth is round, people! Putin tried to intervene on Trump’s behalf,” he said. “Period. End of story. I’m just not going to argue it.”
