Brian Kilmeade Presses Trump During Tour of Private Plane: ‘How Much Weight Did You Lose?!”
Brian Kilmeade interviewed former President Donald Trump Monday evening from inside the just-landed private airplane in New Hampshire. The interview was marked by the Fox & Friends co-host asking the stereotypical and supplicating joke of a question, “Have you lost weight?!”
What’s interesting about the interview is not the interview itself, but rather the ongoing drama between the seemingly certain Republican nominee and the right-of-center cable news outlet that finds itself in a tricky position in its coverage of the former president.
Before holding a rally in Laconia, NH, Monday night, Trump hit Fox News in a social media post that read:
Hard to believe how one-sided FoxNews is – What a difference from the past (Likewise The Wall Street Journal!). No wonder the Republican base no longer cares about them. It was all about Ron DeSantis, and now it’s the BIRDBRAIN SHOW, but the curtains are coming down on that one on Tuesday evening. MAGA!
Mediaite’s Michael Luciano dismissed Trump’s complaint, noting how the former president’s assessment does not align with reality. He wrote:
The idea that Fox News has somehow turned away from Trump is belied by the fact that he appeared on the network three times in the day preceding his post.
He sat for an interview with the network on Sunday night. On Monday, he was a guest on The Story and Special Report. Moreover, Trump was also a guest on Thursday’s edition of Hannity. Additionally, he participated in a town hall on the network less than two weeks ago as Haley debated Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on CNN. Trump is also slated to be interviewed on Tuesday’s edition of Fox & Friends.
In the past few days, Trump was also interviewed by Fox News stalwarts Bret Baier and Lawrence Jones, as well as Brian Kilmeade, — who didn’t appear to be interested in asking questions that would make his guest any more angry at the network.
Trump opened by asking Kilmeade what he thought of “Air Trump One” as he calls his private plane, to which the Fox News host gushed. “I think it’s fantastic. Now, this is a new plane from the one you had me on when you were doing The Apprentice?” he feebly followed.
Then the hard-hitting questions came. “I haven’t seen you in a while,” KImleade said. “You look like you’re in fighting shape. How much weight did you lose!?”
Trump replied, “Maybe 15, maybe 20.” And on it went as Trump was given softballs to boast about his work ethic and glory.
The segment proceeded with anodyne questions and answers that were not terribly newsworthy. But to be fair, this was designed to be morning show fodder for an audience that laments that Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous is no longer on air.
