‘I’m Embarrassed For Them’: CNN’s Don Lemon Says He Used to Watch Fox News ‘Religiously’ — But No Longer Can
CNN anchor Don Lemon said he “used to watch Fox religiously,” but is now “embarrassed” by the network in conversation with Mediaite for the latest episode of The Interview. The CNN Tonight host did say there’s one anchor at the network he’s a fan of.
Asked by Mediaite editor in chief Aidan McLaughlin what he thinks when Fox News criticizes him on their network, Lemon brushed it off. “I try not to traffic in the, you know, criticize the other network thing,” he said. “I don’t really like to do that, but there are times when you have to, because this… I like to c all it state run or state TV. They become an arm of the Trump administration. So sometimes it’s impossible not to criticize them.”
Revealing that he has a “row of monitors” in his office with MSNBC, Fox, CNN, and other networks on, Lemon went on to say, “I used to watch Fox a lot more before the Trump era, but during Trump they’ve become such apologists.”
“And I think what they’re doing is really, really dangerous because, at least at certain times of the day, you could expect to get truth and objectivity on Fox,” he continued. “You can get it sometimes during the day now, in other day parts rather than their opinion programming at night, but it is becoming harder and harder to find.”
“I can’t watch it anymore because it’s just… It’s embarrassing for them and for the people who work there, and there is some really good people who work there and some of whom I know, but I just can’t really watch it anymore,” Lemon declared, adding, “I used to watch Fox religiously because I thought they had some really great journalists and great programming, but I can’t watch anymore. It’s just infuriating, and I’m embarrassed for them.”
Lemon also said he thinks Fox News will change once Trump eventually leaves the White House, though theorized that they could face competition from a “Trump news network,” before revealing that his favorite Fox News personalities are Neil Cavuto, Chris Wallace, and Bret Baier.
“The host that I really have hope for and I can watch now, quite honestly, is Neil Cavuto. I love watching Neil. I think he has a great style. I think he’s really good. I think he’s honest,” Lemon said. “And of course, you know, Chris Wallace.”
“Then I can watch Bret, usually when he does a straight newscast, but when he’s surrounded by the talking heads and the opinion folks, I have to turn the channel,” Lemon concluded. “But that’s really about it. From the morning show until Neil Cavuto comes on, there’s nothing there to really see, and then once Neil is gone, there’s nothing there to see until Neil comes back on the next day. And Bret.”
