Maria Bartiromo Accuses James Comey of Flat-Out ‘Lie’ Over Seashellgate

Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo slammed former FBI director James Comey for going on MSNBC to “lie” that his controversial “86 47” social media post was “totally innocent.”

The Instagram image posted on Thursday, showing seashells positioned to read out the coded numbers, sparked a wave of backlash from Republicans and fury from President Donald Trump, who said that Comey was calling for his “assassination.”

As the scandal unraveled, Comey pleaded ignorance in an interview with MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace on Monday and insisted his post was not meant as a violent threat. The former FBI director explained that he and his wife understood the term “86” to be a restaurant parlance for removal.

On Fox Business on Tuesday, however, Bartiromo tore into Comey’s defense and accused him of adding “insult to injury.”

That is insult to injury, to hear him act so naïve. That is insult to injury. We all know ‘86’ means, eliminate something and I’m pretty sure he knew as FBI director. To sit there and lie on MSNBC as if we’re that stupid? Insult to injury.
