Matt Schlapp Accuses Chris Cuomo of Calling John Kelly a Liar: ‘I’ll Do It Right to Your Face’

Matt Schlapp and Chris Cuomo got into some verbal sparring this morning after the American Conservative Union head accused the CNN host of calling White House chief of staff a “liar.”

While the two were debating the current state of the administration — with Cuomo making the case the White House is in chaos and Schlapp defending the “activity and energy” around President Donald Trump — the host brought up the domestic abuse allegations against ex-aide Rob Porter and Kelly’s involvement in the mess.

SCHLAPP: I agree with you that especially this White House started off that way, but I think under General Kelly, I think things have gotten a lot more orderly.

CUOMO: We just had the Porter scandal — Kelly’s right in the middle of it saying he didn’t know these things which is so hard to believe, Matt.

SCHLAPP: I don’t think you should call the general a liar, I don’t think that’s appropriate.

CUOMO: Did you hear that word come out of my mouth? Did you hear that word come out of my mouth?

SCHLAPP: You used the euphemism. You said, ‘It’s hard to believe what he’s saying.’

CUOMO: No, you know me well enough. If I want to call you a liar, I’ll do it right to your face and they’ll be a smile on mine. It’s about the fact, the FBI reports that the White House counsels office, they have plenty of reasons to know, then the situation starts to come out. It’s not handled well.

As for Schlapp’s defense against claims that the White House is in chaos, the CPAC organizer made the case that it’s actually in a “good system” right now and the reports of “pure madness” are all media hype.

“There is no question that this president wants to see activity, and especially when you see Republicans and Congress, especially in the Senate, moving at that slow glacial pace, I think that makes President Trump uneasy. He wants to push his agenda every day,” said Schlapp.
