MSNBC Stars Psaki and O’Donnell Roast Trump FBI Chief for 2 Full Minutes Over Wardrobe Malfunction

MSNBC hosts Jen Psaki and Lawrence O’Donnell spent two full minutes roasting Trump FBI Director Kash Patel over his accessorizing at a contentious Senate hearing.

Amid bipartisan criticism over his handling of the Charlie Kirk murder investigation, Director Patel testified before an at times explosive hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday.

During the show toss on Tuesday night’s edition of MSNBC’s The Last Word, O’Donnell asked Psaki if he was being “too picky” about Patel’s improperly tied neckwear:

LAWRENCE O`DONNELL, MSNBC HOST: Hey, Jen, I had — I need. Your judgment about whether —

JEN PSAKI, MSNBC HOST “THE BRIEFING WITH JEN PSAKI”: Okay.

O`DONNELL: — I might be being too picky about something that I noticed today, and that is the first FBI director in history to testify to the Senate Judiciary Committee without being able to tie his necktie correctly. Now, J. Edgar Hoover would fire this guy, J. Edgar Hoover, the first and longest director of the FBI, was very particular about the way FBI agents had to dress in every way. And one of the things that J. Edgar Hoover didn`t have to say to any of them is you button the top button of your shirt, and you put your necktie all the way up to the top of the collar. Kash Patel doesn`t know how to do that. Didn`t do that today. And I`m old school enough to have been bumped by that because here`s my justification FBI director is supposed to be someone with a real sensitivity to detail. A real attention to detail in everything, all the time. And how does he miss what his tie looks like, and how does he miss that it`s the only necktie in the room that looks like that. How does he miss that? Jen, have I gone too far?

PSAKI: No.

O`DONNELL: Okay.

PSAKI: Remember, just to let him give him a little ease. He was wearing versions of muscle tees on a podcast a year ago, Lawrence.

O`DONNELL: Yeah.

PSAKI: So he`s got a big, a big, you know, training time to tie the tie.

O`DONNELL: Yeah. Could you imagine either of the presidents you worked for being in a public venue in a suit and tie, either President Obama or President Biden? Having that tie ever. Be anywhere other than perfectly placed on the top button, buttoned on the shirt?

PSAKI: No. Remember the tan suit scandal? They also would have lost their minds over the FBI director previewing his appearance on Fox News. So there`s a lot of things to feel perplexed about. O`DONNELL: All right. Okay. I just — I had to — I had to talk to someone.

PSAKI: You`re not too picky. You`re not too picky.

O`DONNELL: Okay, okay. Thank you, thank you. Jen, I know you were going to say that anyway. You`re very kind. Thank you, Jen.

PSAKI: Thank you.
