NBC’s Chuck Todd: Sources On Both Sides Expect Romney To Win Florida By Under 100k

NBC News’ Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd examined the state of Florida as returns from the Sunshine State pour in. He said that experts on both sides have told him that they expect Mitt Romney to win the state, but by a slim margin. Todd said that if returns show the victor won by less than 50,000 votes, there could be a legal challenge to the state’s electoral outcome.

“I’ve talked to experts on both sides, very quietly tonight, who both say they expect Romney to carry the state by under 100,000 votes,” Todd said. He said that there are a number of issues, including absentee and provisional ballots, which could extend vote counting if the margin between Romney and President Barack Obama remains tight.

Todd described Florida as a must win for Romney but not Obama. “Anything decided, I think, by less than 50,000 votes could be subject to a challenge, particularly if it’s the difference between getting to 270 and not getting to 270,” Todd concluded.
