‘Outstanding and Forceful!’ Morning Joe Promotes Remarkably Pro-Biden Focus Group Following State of the Union

MSNBC’s Morning Joe spent a segment on a focus group that was conducted after President Joe Biden’s State of the Union that had extra-good things to say about Biden’s performance.

A clip was played featuring panelists from a focus group of Democratic voters, so the bias was seemingly already baked in. Then again, not all Democrats are unconditionally on board with Biden at the moment. But this focus group, which was conducted by Mark Halperin’s Wide World of News, definitely leaned pro-Joe. When asked for two-word answers to describe Biden’s performance, they offered up very positive terms:

“Knowledgeable and in command.”

“[F]orceful and in command.”

“[C]apable and strong.”

“Outstanding and forceful.”

And then the more assuring: “The bedwetting ceased.”

Co-host Mika Brzezinski called the group “fascinating,” which Joe Scarborough reiterated to guest Donny Deutsch:

SCARBOROUGH: It’s fascinating, of these core Democrats who, obviously, for good reason, for Democrats, were energized by the State of the Union. Still concerned, one of them said, “Let Scranton Joe be Scranton Joe.” They want him out there fighting. I’m curious what your thoughts are on that.

DEUTSCH: I thought the State of the Union was a brilliant reset. And I think if I take some of the words that came out of the focus group, “strong,” “forceful,” yes, there were issues to talk about, but he had to answer one question: Is he too old? Does he have the stamina? Does he have the strength? Does he have the vigor? And you saw on display for over an hour. So I think everything else is such subtext to that.

And to your point, Joe, he’s got to continue it. It’s got to be a reset and a launch and not just a one-off. Every time you talk to any, you know, anti-Biden person, they’re not talking about the economy, and they’re not talking about inflation, and they’re not talking about healthcare, and they’re not talking about abortion because they can’t talk about those things. So all they say is that one, one, one issue. So that’s got to, it’s, so much is about style as well as the substance of this point, and he stylistically blew it off the map. But I think you saw that with that focus group.
