Stephen Colbert: Newt’s ‘All-You-Can-Research’ Greek Cruise Explains Gingrich’s Other Scandals

Close followers of the GOP presidential primary race will recall that current frontrunner Newt Gingrich caught some flak back in June for opting to go on a Greek pleasure cruise instead of campaigning in Iowa. Gingrich recently explained that trip as a fact-finding mission of sorts in which he learned about the economic challenges facing Greece. Stephen Colbert celebrated this explanation last night, adding that it puts all of Newt’s other scandals in a whole new light.

After showing promotional footage of the Odyssey Cruise, Colbert then pivoted to reconsider past Gingrich scandals in a new research oriented light.

That half a million dollar line of credit at Tiffany’s? He was just studying the reckless spending that is ruining our economy. His million-plus fake twitter followers? A daring expose of internet fraud. The three wives, two of whom he cheated on, one while she was battling cancer…that was not gay.
