Trump Fawns Over Marco Rubio and Tells Him To Never Run for Office Again: ‘I Don’t Think You Should’
President Donald Trump fawned over Secretary of State Marco Rubio at a Tuesday White House cabinet meeting where he told Rubio he should hang it up when it comes to running for office again.
While discussing the deployment of the National Guard to Washington, D.C. and then 10-plus days in the city that have passed without a homicide, Trump began praising cabinet members around the table, but he offered his most enthusiastic praise for Rubio, who currently holds three positions in the administration.
Trump jokingly recommended Rubio never run for an elected office again because he found the job he’s perfect at. He previously served as a representative in the House for Florida and as a longtime Senator from the state.
“Really, I think you’re born for this job. I don’t think you should ever run for another office. I don’t think you should really,” Trump said, giving Rubio, seated next to him, a friendly tap. Rubio, along with Vice President JD Vance, is often mentioned as a potential 2028 presidential candidate.
On top of his role as secretary of state, Rubio is also currently serving as the acting head of USAID, acting archivist for the National Archives and Records Administration, and acting national security advisor.
While a closer advisor now, Rubio was once a political enemy of Trump. During the 2016 presidential election, Trump called Rubio “little Marco” and even mocked him for the way he drank water.
On Tuesday, the president declared that everyone likes and respects Rubio in the administration.
“You’re so good at this. He is so good and everybody likes him, but everybody, much more important than like, I think you would say is respect,” Trump said. “They respect Marco.”
