Dan Crenshaw Warns on Fox that ISIS Attacks in US Are Coming: War ‘Clearly Not Ended’

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) warned on Thursday that terrorist attacks were likely to make a comeback in the United States after scenes of mayhem credited to the Islamic State broke out in Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul.

“Their capabilities are obviously still intact,” Crenshaw said in a morning interview with Fox News’ Harris Faulkner. “I’m not sure if this attack is a result of the fact that when the Taliban came through they left 5,000 prisoner out, many of whom were ISIS. In any case, the intelligence community saw this coming, and now they assume that whether it’s al Qaeda or ISIS, they’ll be able to externalize these attacks, meaning do it on the homeland — sooner than later.”

He made the comments about an hour after Thursday morning’s news that two suicide bombers in Kabul had injured more than 40 people, including at least three American service members. Afghanistan’s chapter of ISIS, the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K), took credit for the attack.

Crenshaw, who lost an eye to an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan during a combat tour as a Navy SEAL, said the incident illustrated the war had “clearly not ended.”

He also called on President Joe Biden to reassert the U.S. military presence in the region and to retake portions of the country, saying, “I think we should retake more airfields throughout the country. You can’t expect everybody to be going to this hell hole that is the Kabul airport right now. Retake Bagram and other airports as well. It will take troops on the ground and a complete reassessment of our strategy, but the military can do it.”

“From a tactical perspective, I like to hear the enemy is massing and finally out in the open and not hiding in the population, which is what made these wars so difficult over time,” he added. “We have to acknowledge that there are people out there that want to kill us, and if they have any space whatsoever, any room, any time whatsoever, they’re planning an attack on the homeland. … We have to acknowledge that fact. Biden has refused to acknowledge that fact.”
