Bernie Sanders is known for a lot of great things. He’s a progressive leader who has spent his political career focused on issues including wealth inequality, universal healthcare, and reducing student debt. During the 2016 Election, he gave Hillary Clinton a run for her money. One thing he’s not known for is his fashion sense. Somehow, however, he inspired Balenciaga.
At their Paris Fashion Week runway show Wednesday, the company, known for its handbags and clothing created looks inspired by Sanders and his historic campaign.
Models walked the runway in outfits with a logo on them that resembled the one Sanders used as a part of the show for its collection that showcased corporate wear. As Bloomberg points out, the statement is somewhat ironic. A Balenciaga handbag will run you thousands of dollars, and much of Sanders’ campaign was built on standing up to corporate greed.
This election, we thought we had seen it all, but this surprise pretty much takes the cake. Still, it’s a nice tribute and the models look pretty good. You can’t buy the clothing, though. Seems this display was just for the runway.
