Bill Clinton’s Speech Not Yet Vetted By Obama Campaign, According To Report

Former President Bill Clinton has not yet submitted his speech for the Democratic National Convention to President Barack Obama’s campaign for vetting, according to a report in BuzzFeed Politics.

Clinton is the only major speaker yet to submit his address to the typically painstaking vetting and rewriting that typically accompanies major convention addresses, provoking a mild and growing dose of nerves among senior Democrats, a Democratic official told BuzzFeed Monday.

The popular former Democratic president’s address to the DNC in Charlotte, North Carolina, is among the most anticipated speeches of the three-day event.

Clinton has not been shy about contradicting President Obama in public.

In June, 2011, amid a pitch by the Obama White House to raise taxes on high income Americans, Clinton released a book and gave interviews to the press warning that tax increases should be avoided during periods of sluggish economic growth.

in June of this year, as the Obama campaign was ramping up its attacks on Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital, Clinton praised Romney’s career as “sterling” and said Democrats should not demonize private equity as “bad work.”

BuzzFeed notes that they have not yet heard back from a Clinton’s spokesperson regarding the status of the address.
