Boehner, McCarthy Stand Behind Scalise: ‘He Has My Full Confidence As Our Whip’
Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today threw his support behind House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) after revelations that he’d given a speech at a white supremacist convention in 2002 as a state representative.
After quietly waiting for a day, Boehner’s office released this statement:
“More than a decade ago, Representative Scalise made an error in judgment, and he was right to acknowledge it was wrong and inappropriate. Like many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, I know Steve to be a man of high integrity and good character. He has my full confidence as our Whip, and he will continue to do great and important work for all Americans.”
Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) also offered his comments:

After a Louisiana political blogger uncovered evidence that Scalise attended the European-American Unity and Rights Organization conference in 2002, organized by garden variety neo-Nazi David Duke, Scalise immediately admitted that he had done so.
This thing from earlier probably had nothing to do with Boehner’s statement of support.
