CNN Unveils iPad App With Live Video
CNN unveils its “visually rich” iPad app today, which will include the ability to watch live breaking news. “High quality, world-class journalism is what CNN does best, whether live breaking news, hard-hitting interviews or in-depth investigations, and our iPad app presents that content to the world in a wholly new way,” said KC Estenson, senior vice president and general manager of CNN.com.
The new iPad app–which unlike CNN’s highly successful CNN’s mobile phone app–is free, marks the network’s move into the larger real estate space of tablets. It also raises the stakes in CNN’s efforts to dominate the news app category. (Fox News, which crushes its competition in cable news ratings, has trailed CNN since the debut of Fox’s mobile news app in April.)
The new app includes text, galleries and video and the ability to share stories via email, Facebook and Twitter. Users can also access live breaking news video and CNN radio updates:
“One of the things about the app that excites us most is the ability to serve the news needs of iPad users while also exposing them to original, enterprise content from CNN that will surprise and delight them,” said Louis Gump, vice president of CNN Mobile. “The CNN App was built from the ground up with our consumers in mind, and we are proud of the new CNN experience we’ve created for the device.”
