Dem Senator Reenacts Senate Footage for Campaign Ad
Senator Mary Landrieu is up for reelection, and the Louisiana Democrat has a new ad out touting the work she’s done for the people of the state. But the ad has gotten some flak from Republicans because one of the clips in the video is a reenactment of comments she made in a Senate hearing last year.
Last year, during a hearing on revenue sharing from offshore oil, Landrieu said, “How do you think the oil and gas gets into people’s tanks when they fill up at the gas station? Do you think there are a bunch of fairy godmothers out there that just wish a magic wand?” That second line was shown in the campaign ad (except fixed to “wave a magic wand”), in what is basically a re-staging of the Senate hearing.
Landrieu’s campaign says they weren’t able to use the actual footage because of campaign rules on Senate footage, and in response to some of the Republican hits, a DSCC spokesman asked, “Are Republicans claiming that she should have broken the law in the ad?”
