Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted this morning that President Trump is right to want to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border:
President Trump is right. I built a wall along Israel's southern border. It stopped all illegal immigration. Great success. Great idea ????
— Benjamin Netanyahu (@netanyahu) January 28, 2017
Trump signed multiple orders on immigration this week, including plans for the border wall.
And as Haaretz points out, Trump invoked Israel in speaking with Sean Hannity about his plan:
“The wall is necessary. That’s not just politics, and yet it is good for the heart of the nation in a certain way because people want protection, and a wall protects. All you have to do is ask Israel. They were having a total disaster coming across, and they had a wall. It’s 99.9 percent stoppage. A proper wall.”
UPDATE –– 4:20 pm ET: A spokesman for Israel’s foreign ministry had to tweet this out later:
.@IsraeliPM referred to our specific security experience which we are willing to share. We do not express a position on US- Mexico relations
