Media Chaos: Here Are Some Of The Other News Outlets That Got Initial Boston ‘Arrest’ Report Wrong

 

While CNN has been taking heat for incorrectly reporting that a suspect had been arrested in connection with Monday’s Boston Marathon bombings, they were not alone in the mistaken reporting.

The oldest cable news network is taking heat for initially reporting that a suspect had been arrested, based on official sources, but they were not alone among major news outlets whose individual sources proved to be incorrect.

Boston’s local CBS station reported around 1:50 p.m. ET that there had been an arrest made, linking to an article which has since been updated to reflect the facts:

Shortly after 2:00 p.m. ET, the Associated Press reported that the Boston Marathon bomb suspect was in custody and expected in federal court:

Fox News reported around 2:05 p.m. ET that they had confirmed, via two sources, that an arrest had been made:

20 minutes later, The Boston Globe reported that sources told the paper a suspect was in custody and en route to a Boston courthouse:

All of these outlets, including CNN, have since corrected or walked back their initial reports, after Boston Police released an official statement saying no arrest had been made:
