Michael Avenatti Claims Russia Is Using U.S. Media to Smear Him: ‘They See Me as a Threat’
Stormy Daniels attorney Michael Avenatti is now claiming that he is being smeared by the Russian government.
Avenatti spoke to The Daily Beast, and while he “did not offer concrete proof,” he said that he’s heard about this from “two media figures and a high-ranking American intelligence official.”
Over the course of the last few months Avenatti has gone after not just Trump but his lawyer Michael Cohen, including being the first to reveal a payment Cohen received by a firm linked to a Russian oligarch.
He tells the Beast of this alleged Russian targeting, “They’re doing it because they see me as a threat, a considerable threat. If we weren’t a threat, none of this would be happening.”
Avenatti says there have been very specific and false claims being made against him:
“They were trying to claim that I too had taken a trip to Moscow,” Avenatti said. “I’ve never been to Moscow in my life, I’ve never traveled to Russia in my life.”
“They suggested that I had had a liaison with multiple women in Russia,” he added. “I found that to be rather ironic.”
And in a tweet linking to the Beast article, Avenatti says there are people in the media “lending credibility to the nonsense”:
This is how desperate our opposition is getting. And some members of the media are lending credibility to the nonsense that is being peddled by foreign interests by running hit pieces. https://t.co/4VJkhuVPSw via @thedailybeast
