Newtown Teacher Arrested for Bringing Gun to Middle School
A Newtown, Connecticut teacher was arrested today for having a gun with him in a middle school.
Science teacher Jason Adams had the firearm on him inside Newtown Middle School and, while he does have a permit, state law does not allow for guns on school property.
According to the Hartford Courant, the police showed up around 9 am after school officials called to report his concealed firearm.
Adams was immediately arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school ground. The school placed him on leave.
In a statement, the school said, “This matter is very serious and troubling, both the Newtown Public School system and the Newtown Police Department took immediate steps to address the matter. The teacher was immediately detained by security personnel.”
Newtown, of course, is the town where children were gunned down at the Sandy Hook elementary school back in December 2012.
