‘The Only Person Who Can Hack Me Is Me’: Leslie Jones Takes on Her Trolls During SNL
Leslie Jones took the stage on Saturday Night Live tonight, where she struck back at the trolls and critics who have been determined to bring her down in the last few months.
When Jones appeared on “Weekend Update” to discuss WikiLeaks, Jones took time to address how she was targeted by hackers who defaced her website and released naked pictures of her. Jones managed to shrug this off for the most part, saying “if you want to see Leslie Jones naked, just ask.”
“If you want to hurt anybody these days you’re going to have to do way more than leak their nudes or call them names. You can’t embarrass me more than I have embarrassed myself.”
After that, Jones appeared to change course and address the trolls who caused her to temporarily quit Twitter this year, when they leveled racially-charged abuse at her over her role in the Ghostbusters remake. Jones said that she has faced bigger challenges in her life than Internet trolls, and that they ought to be making better use of their time.
“If I was good at computers I wouldn’t waste it trolling people, I would do something useful, like renew my driver’s license from home,” Jones said. “At a certain point you got to stop being embarrassed and just start being you. I have been me for 49 years, because the only person who can hack me is me.”
