Several days after news first emerged that Donald Trump Jr. took a meeting with a Russian lawyer who claimed to have dirt on Hillary Clinton last year, Clinton’s running mate is speaking out — condemning Trump Jr.’s actions, and suggesting that the Russia probe may be heading into a whole new territory as a result.
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) told reporters on Capitol Hill Tuesday that treason could well be on the table.
“We’re now beyond obstruction of justice, in terms of what’s being investigated,” Kaine said. “This is moving into perjury, false statements, and even potentially treason.”

That comment was made prior to Donald Trump Jr. releasing an email chain setting up his meeting with the attorney. And in a conversation with Andrea Mitchell after the emails became public, Kaine said that the correspondence served as “wheelbarrows full of new evidence for special counsel Robert Mueller.
“They should’ve turned this over to law enforcement immediately,” Kaine said. “Instead, they had this very, very troubling meeting. And this is just wheelbarrows full of new evidence for the special prosecutor and the Senate Intelligence Committee.”
