The Twitterverse was set ablaze on Sunday night in light of the news that Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer for the express purpose of helping his father’s presidential campaign.
New York Times has revealed that the president’s son and two of his campaign advisers met a Kremlin affiliate who supposedly promised them information that could hurt Hillary Clinton. Trump Jr. says the discussion didn’t provide any major dirt on his father’s opponent, though the meeting’s implications invite new questions for the ongoing probes into Russia’s 2016 election interference.
Naturally, media observers on Twitter took quite a bit of interest in this.
Some people found it interesting that Trump Jr. changed his description of the meeting on multiple occasions since the initial story came out on Saturday:
I love how differently Trump Jr. described the meeting once he found out that others knew Hillary was indeed discussed

Just a reminder that Don Jr. once said of talks with Russian agents: "none that I was representing the campaign in any way, shape or form.”

Don Trump Jr:
—March: Never met w/Russians on campaign issues
—Yday: It was about adoption
—Today: She said she had damaging info on Clinton https://t.co/LjAsxTnnDD

Others noticed that Trump Jr. seemed prepared to accept Russian help if it improved his father’s chances of winning the election:
This statement is just as bizarre as his changing story: Admits they were there for damaging info, but said it never happened so it's all OK pic.twitter.com/bnGzM8h8nB

So Don Jr. is openly admitting his father's campaign was willing to accept help from the Russians to damage HRC. Seems pretty big.

The craziest part of this is that Jr. said he WANTED the dirt on Hillary Clinton and was REAL MAD he didn't get it so he ended the meeting. https://t.co/gBeD27XRif

Trump Jr's statement suggests he sees no problem taking info about Clinton from a Russian agent if there'd been any.https://t.co/EQdXtZmFbX

Astonishing part of this is Don Jr.'s statement. "It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information." He wanted it! https://t.co/mfmBUNya4n

You use the Roger Stone rules: you do whatever grimy, slimy thing you can think of to win. If shady Russian biz is your thing? Go for it.
— Joy Reid (@JoyAnnReid) July 9, 2017
This is treason. He must have known that the only way Russia would get such information was by spying.https://t.co/MSwr3DsbHs

And finally, there was the mix of critical comments and general mockery:
I wish I could master the Russian technique of making people forget they met me.

Can't wait for Donald Jr. & Donald Sr. to denounce NYT story as "fake news"–after Don Jr. didn't tell the full truth about the meeting.

Trump and his kids could confess to everything tomorrow morning and it would change NOTHING.

Speaking of adoption, we are a couple hours from a Trump tweet that says Don Jr is adopted.

What POTUS' son admits to in this statement is jaw dropping in and of itself. https://t.co/L9QhnQ8s8f

Trump Jr: The meeting was about adoption

U know it's a heckuva story when every journo just tweets the article headline as the caption instead of with a pithy comment

Donald Jr is somehow even more busted than Chris Christie sitting on an empty beach https://t.co/KROdI6V4MH
