It seems President Trump is backing away from his earlier proposal to set up a mutual cybersecurity partnership with Russia.
The fact that President Putin and I discussed a Cyber Security unit doesn't mean I think it can happen. It can't-but a ceasefire can,& did!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 10, 2017
Trump initially floated the possibility during a series of tweets where he talked about his G20 meeting with Vladimir Putin and said it was time for a more constructive relationship with Russia. Trump was widely criticized today, not only for indications that he failed to hold Putin accountable for his wrongdoings, but also for suggesting a cybersecurity project with the nation that interfered with the 2016 election.
For now, it looks like Trump will keep touting the agreement he and Putin reached for a ceasefire in Syria.
