Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert reported to the Federal Medical Center on Wednesday to face his sentence for his financial crimes from last year.
Hastert arrived two hours before his appointed prison deadline today at a correctional facility in Rochester, Minnesota. Hastert’s sentence is set for 15 months, though NBC Chicago estimated that it might be closer to 12.5 if he gets out on good behavior.
Hastert presided over the House of Representatives for eight years, but his legacy came tumbling down when it was discovered that he conducted illicit “currency transactions” that led prosecutors to charge him for bank fraud. And Hastert admitted in court that he sexually molested former students of his and that his transferred cash was hush money to keep his victims quiet.
Beyond the prison sentence, Hastert has been ordered to pay $250,000 to a victims, will be supervised for two years upon release, and he must enroll in a treatment program for sex offenders.
