Monday night, President Donald Trump will name his nominee to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court. The announcement is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET.
Trump is believed to have narrowed his decision to four people on his short list: Brett Kavanaugh, Thomas Hardiman, Raymond Kethledge, and Amy Coney Barrett. Conservative figures have expressed a variety of opinions about which potential Justice would have the best impact on the next generation for the Court. But for now, the White House is being tight-lipped about the decision, and indications suggest that Trump might still be grappling with his final choice as well at this late hour.
There is bound to be a lot of media fanfare around the announcement since Trump’s choice will mark a significant and lasting shift in how the Supreme Court rules on cases. The president’s critics are bound to express fierce opposition to his choice, not only due to worries about a possible reversal of Roe v. Wade, but also due to concerns that the Court might roll back other landmark rulings without Kennedy’s swing vote.
